Bon Cop, Bad Cop does action movie just fine, complete with suspense, silliness, some tenderness, lots of Quebec/Ontario French/English digs (great fun!), a little more gore than I like, but not too bad. It really was well done. Well worth haring across town to meet Rob coming the other way, so we could see it at a reasonable time. Nice dinner, too -- Japanese -- sushi and tempura. YUM. The kitties weren't too amused at waiting until after 10 pm for dinner, but I think they'll forgive us, if we don't do it too often.

Well, dinner is a pretty moveable feast to start with. Anywhere from 6 to 9, depending on what else is going on, is perfectly normal. So another hour one way or the other elicits quizzical looks and raised eyebrows, but never mutiny.

I took a look at your link for Bon Cop, Bad Cop. Sounds hilarious - I'm going to have to watch this! You must be Canadian (at least at heart)! I love the movie Canadian Bacon! Have you seen it? It's a hoot!

Dinner tonight - nothing special. Sausages, mashed potatoes and green beans!

More than at heart. I grew up in Montreal. My brother is still there. Most of the family is in Ontario. I'm the weirdo that moved west to Vancouver.

It's the best movie I've seen in a long time -- just as a movie -- but also because it spoke to my Canadian heart. We did a fine job of laughing at ourselves, and I'm still smiling today. I may need to see it again.

As for dinner...we'll I've STILL got that avocado! Maybe I should just make guacamole. Then we'd have to have nachos. Life is tough.

ETA: Canadian Bacon? no I haven't. must check it out.

You'll love it! John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, Rhea Perlman! It's great! You're in Vancouver? That's where I was born! I'm an air force brat, so lived all over, but settled in Ontario (my Dad's last posting). I must say - they don't move around nearly as much now as they used to! I live in an Air Force town, and I've had the same neighbours for a lot of years! Parles-tu français?

Everybody's culinary efforts look so good! (Except, um, maybe, that first picture.
)

I finally managed to cook last night, so I snapped a picture. (Pat thought I'd finally lost it...)

So here's my Jerk Pork Chops with whole grain pilaf and mixed veggies:

Petit peu, seulement. I learned it from grade 3, always did well, still read and write it reasonably I think, and could probably cope orally if necessary. But even when I was still living there, I never needed to use it, living in a totally anglo area, and working in an office where internally it wasn't needed. I've often regretted not being more pro-active in becoming proficient, but pro-activity was a little foreign to me at that point in my life.
I had already moved to Vancouver when the language fireworks got going, and not surprisingly have had neither need nor opportunity here. It surprises me on my infrequent trips to Montreal that I'm still usually approached in English, and spared the need to try.

My brother was air force -- but only for five years. That was when God was a little boy, and they did move 'em around! Off the top of my head I can think of four of his postings and I know there were more!

Hmmm...maybe we should turn this thread back to the dinner folks...ya think?

Susie, they're pork chops marinated in Carribean jerk sauce. It's a little sweet and a little spicy.

Fran, come on over! I have leftovers. (It looks like I should have come over when I was up in Vancouver a few weeks ago. Your dishes look delicious!)

Pour ne pas enfreindre plus, français en PM

The avocado is no more. But it was in fiiiiiiiiiiine shape -- pure butter! Here it is, draped with fresh shrimp, on a bed of baby greens garnished with bacon and hard cooked egg.
