Cha Cha was a stray who chose us. She produced five kittens who are now four months old. We are keeping Mom and her kittens. Watching her interact with the kittens is a joy. She is very affectionate.
Tomorrow, Cha Cha will be spayed.
Is it likely that the surgery will alter her behaviour? Will she reject the kittens?

(The kittens are - Silver, Charlie, Rick, Bib and Winfred.)

She will slowly start to seperate herself from the mom role anyway. Spaying will not alter her normal behavior at all except that she will not be driven to mate anymore. Her hormone levels will start to even out naturally as the kittens get older whether or not she is spayed. Most likely she will still be close to her kittens but maybe not in the exact same way as she is now as their caretaker. I'm not sure I'm saying this right.

My mother's cat was spayed immediately after her first litter, she was sore and tired when she came home but other than that she was alright again after a few days. Back to her old self. Just make sure she eats, especially if she's nursing.

A cat can get pregnant while still nursing a litter, so it's a good idea to have her spayed.

You shouldn't find her nature changing, except that she may calm down a bit and not worry about going into heat.
