Hi. I am new to the site. I have three cats. My first is Reggie. He is 8 years old. My husband and I rescued two additonal cats from the local PAWS organization. Timmy. He is 3 years old and my newest kitty is 4 years old. His name is Ernie. He is a hemingway cat or polydactyl and has extra toes on all of his paws. I couldn't remember what we named him when we first brought him home about a year ago, so I kept calling him "new kitty". So that is his name now.

I have three kids, ages 20, 18 and 10. All cat lovers of course. I wanted to become a member of this site so I could get to know everyone and pick the brains of the cat lovers and long-time cat owners out there.

My oldest cat, Reggie has been sleeping at the foot of my bed for 8 years. Every night as soon as the lights go out he will jump up on the foot of my bed and remain there the entire night. We have become accustomed to him sleeping there. He is so regimented that when we have been on vacation in the past and our oldest son stayed at the house with them, Reggie would jump up on the bed when it was the usual time to go to bed.

The issue is he has suddenly stopped sleeping on the bed as of last Thursday. He is now sleeping at the bottom of the bed on the floor. I've almost tripped over him a couple of times in the dark. I have put him up on his blanket at the bottom of the bed and he immediately jumps down. He doesn't seem to be sick. He is still running around the house with his brothers and playing. He is eating fine and using his litterbox as usual. I know this is probably a weird posting, but those of you who understand the habits of a cat know that they rarely change from their normal routine.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this sudden behavior change?

My cats seem to change their sleeping patterns on a whim. I wouldn't worry about it! My Loki goes from wanting to cuddle up to me to being absent at bedtime! Welcome to the forum! Bienvenue à la forum!

Welcome!

Perhaps your bed has something new to change Reggie's sleeping habit?

But I agree with Lokismum. My cats also do not stick to permanent sleeping spots.

Hi and welcome to TCS, you´ll love it here, its great fun and of course, lots of help, advice, support and great friendship

One of my cats changes his sleeping place every 6-8 mths, sometimes he finds something he takes a fancy to sleeping on
you know if hubby throws clothes on the floor instead of the laundry basket
I am sure he is fine and as you said he is eating etc all ok - bless him, he´s just making sure you are still taking notice of him
