Ok so I posted the other day about my neighbor having Siamese mix kittens she's going to adopt out and I get first pick

Well today DH was out on the porch and my neighbor's BF came over to talk to him. I was on the phone with DH and asked DH to ask them how old the kittens are and when I can come look at them. Our neighbor *Jeff said they were 5 weeks old and eating on thier own, using the litterbox and I could come get one tonight. I was shocked! 5 WEEKS? and they are already wanting to adopt them out?!!

Well I AM going to go over there tonight to look at them and see what kind of health they are in. How should I go about letting them know they are WAY too young to be adopted out? She said that after I pick out which one I want she has other people coming over to pick thiers out but not until I pick.
I know DH was also told that they aren't nursing anymore so I'm wondering if my neighbor is actually weaning them herself or if momma kitty did.
My neighbor really does mean well but she doesn't know alot about animals...She did say that she's taking momma kitty to get fixed this friday. Maybe that's why she weaned them?

I have a feeling that I might end up with all these babies at my house bottle feeding them until they are old enough. Or I might just put off picking mine until they are old enough to keep other people from getting them but I know that she would probably just tell them to pick anyways.... I'm really upset about this.
I don't want to upset my neighbor either.....Help me!

Hmmm thats a hard place to be in. If its a good friend, would she trust your opinion enough that once you explained the benifits of keeping the babies with mom, she might consider holding off on the adoptions for a few weeks? And depending on if you are able to, maybe offer to come help her with the kittens if she needs it. Just some suggestions, good luck and I can't wait to see your new baby!

I would definately urge your neighbor, in a kind, nice way - to keep the kittens with the mom cat for at least 2-3 more weeks. If you think she means well, maybe she will listen to you? Do your best!

Good luck! I agree about asking her to keep them with mom a little longer.

Well I went over there tonight... Good news but bad news...
Good news is they are healthy and eating solid food... bad news about that is they are totally weaned from momma
She is adopting them out next week. Momma kitty really hasn't had much to do with them for the last week or two. They tried to get her to keep nursing them but she will just hiss at them and walk away...
She said she's been giving them KMR in there food and they chow down on it. I did pick out the one I want. He's a beautiful little boy.. I couldn't get good pics of them but she said I could come back later this week and take more pics.... I really didn't know what to tell her since the momma kitty has basically abandoned them.....What do you guys think?

I promise I'll have better pics later this week

I'm surprised that a vet will spay a cat so soon after giving birth. It seemed like I had to wait 4 weeks after the kittens were weaned??
Its probably better to get the cat spayed as she doesn't seem to know how to take care of kittens properly.

Did the vet give any particular reason for waiting so long afterwards? I just had a female spayed when the kittens were 9 weeks old and still occationally nursing. But it turned out the mother was already pregnant again so it was a good ting she was quickley spayed and the kittens aborted. Don't want to deal with that again!

I think mine wanted the uterus and various tissues "down there" to be more contracted??? Grizzly is a bit on the chubby side so maybe a precaution-which didn't matter as she was pregnant again too.
