I have 2 cats, and 1 loves to go outside, and would meow constantly until he went out...Finally I gave in, and let him out, but I've had complaints. I built a large cage in the backyard, with access to it from my office window, and as a treat while trying to get him accustomed to the cage, I let him loose after dark, and he comes back in early in the morning!

The 1st time, i left him in the cage overnight, with the window open so he can come in to eat, I woke up to a god awful smell, and extreme diahrea in the litter box, so I assumed he was stressed to the max. he keeps meowing to be loose during the day, even though the cage is accessible, and his caterwauling is driving me nuts. I've tried the earplugs, and that doesn't work...short of walking around the house with a walkman all day, I'm not sure what else I can do. I've even tried the water pistol when he meows loudly...he runs when he sees it, but still, 1 minute later...he's at it again.

Any ideas as to what I can do? Winter's coming soon, and I know he won't go out as much, but he'll constantly ask to go out, and once he sense the cold, will come in...only to have the A.D.D, and ask again 2 minutes later!! I don't want to get rid of him, but I'm afraid it may have to come to that. Thanks for any ideas y'all might have

hello,
If he has not been castrated i would say that he can smell a female on heat nearby. If he has then he could smell and impossing cat on his land and wants to scare it off other than that it could be stress or sheer frustration!!! If he doesnt stop within the next wek i would take him to your vet as he could have an underlying condition.(how is his urination??? cats often cry when they are in pain if he is passing little bits at a time and straining it could be cystitis (bladder infection) which can be cured by a fews of antibiotics(nothing serious). Hope this helps xx

He's been fixed, and there are hardly any cats in the neighborhood...guess the complaining lady got to everyone. there is 1 cat, but doesn't seem to come in my yard, and my neighbor has an indoor cat...I usually find him lying down on the neighbor's steps in the morning when I let him loose overnight.

His urination seems fine, but lately nothing much, so I assume he was going outside at night, and he just sleeps during the day. He is a feral cat who got rescued, so my guess was he was used to being totally free, and wants that again for some reason.

I try to play with them as much as I can, but sometimes I'm gone all day. Pixie enjoys the cage since she wasn't an outdoor cat, but goes out for a bit everyday, and plays with the toys that I left in the cage...still afraid of the hammock though

Hahaha..Beats me!! All I know was getting a visit from animal control a few weks ago, and was told about a complaint they received...something about killing birds, yet all I found on my doorstep was mice...my next door neighbor told me that it was some little old lady next to them...If you complain, keep your mouth shut about it, cause people talk to each other
