I don't even know where to begin, but this is the only place I could think of to turn. We had storm's roll through here yesterday, with constant thunder and lightning, but no rain. Layla hid in the bedroom under Dad's bed and didn't come out for anything. I assumed it was the storm's. We tried to coax her out but she wouldn't budge, so we left her there. This morning, I got up, and Mom told me Layla still wouldn't come out from under the bed. We finally got her out, and she drank almost a full bowl of water, and went to hide again. Something wasn't right, and I knew it. She had this funny smell, and she was walking hunched up and slow like she was in a ton of pain.

I called the vet immediately to make sure if I came in with just a CC number and not the owner of the card if they would take it, and they said yea, come on in. I rushed up there with my sister and within a few minutes we were in with the vet. Her temp was at 105, so she has a fever, and he was examining her, and when he felt along her spine, about midway down her back, he found the soreness. She cried out, and clenched up, and I cried. He wanted to keep her for the day to run a blood test, do xray's, all that kind of stuff, pain meds, antibiotics...

Well, I just called, and he told me he managed to get her temp down to 104, there's still some tenderness in her back, and upon xray's discovered her vertebrae in that area are not... shaped like they should be. Her WBC came back normal, but he's concerned obviously about her back, and wants to keep her over night because he doesn't want to send her home with a temp.

I don't know what to do. I don't think they have 24 hour vet care there, so what if something happen's during the night? Mom's so upset, and I'm debating on bringing her home for the night, and bringing her back in the morning. I don't know what to do. I want what's best for her, but I wonder if bringing her home might be best. I don't know. Keep her in your thoughts. I'm scared out of my mind right now, and once again we have another cat where they are unsure of excatly what's going on, and I'm at my wit's end.

oh no poor baby - is there not an emergency vet in the area that can take over during the over night hours in place of your regular? That way someone would be there all the time.

Of course prayers and healing thoughts coming to your baby!!

I have everything crossed for her. I know how you are feeling about leaving her at the vets with no one there, I had to do the same with PEbbles (but I did have a 'discussion' with the vet first!!). IS there no 24 hour animal hospital anywhere local? I would personally be tempted to see if you could take her home, and monitor her, but you would need a back up in case she did need to be seen urgently.

here is my thought after having a cat in the hospital for over 2 months... i was nervous about leaving him there obviously...
I would find out for sure... there may not be a doctor there, but there may be technicians or assistants... and to be honest, I don't think my kitty would have survived without the assistants... I would figure out for sure before you move her around too much.

Keep her at the vet's. They generally have a vet tech or assistant that comes in at night to check on the animals. They are certainly more prepared to help her if something goes wrong than you will be. Put on an old tee shirt and go for a bike ride, or a run or a long walk. Get it nice and sweaty, stick it in a ziploc bag and take that to the vet for her. Tell them you don't care what happens to the shirt, you just want her to have it. Your scent on the shirt will calm her.

Well, I called the vet again, and her temp is down to 103.2 and she is resting comfortably. They have her away from all the dog's and other cat's to make her more relaxed. Still unknown as to what the deal is with her back, but they will do more xray's in the morning to see if whatever they saw has changed, and I am hoping I can pick her up. They said they do not have a person over night, but she is doing quite well and I shouldn't worry. The tech I spoke with put me very much at ease, so that's a step in the right direction. I'm just worried. She has the towel I laid in the carrier with her when we went this morning, so I am hoping that will work. Oh, they gave her some subq fluids which helped to bring her temp down, and the tech said she's been doing very well with the shots and she's been very pleasant and doesn't seem to be in much pain. Goodness I hope I can bring her home in the morning. Here's to quick thinking, and the vet being less than 5 mins. from the house. I just wish I knew what was up. Keep the thoughts and prayer's coming. She need's them that she recovers from whatever the heck this is.
