My girl cat is 9 years old. She has been fixed, and she never goes out. A couple of days ago, she was making all kinds of weird noises until I saw her face to face with a boy cat outside in the backyard. The only thing separating them was the mosquito screen. She went CRAZY but then he left and she was a normal kitty again. Well, she just pooped on the coutch that is in my sunroom, and she peed on the loveseat in my sunroom, all today. She has never been bad, and she always uses her cat litter. Is this something that she is going to do again and again? Do I have to ban her from the sunroom? I need help. Thanks for your comments. You guys have helped me so much here. I had to re-register since it had been a while I wasn't on here, but you guys are awesome... thanks in advance for your comments.

Was she in the sunroom when she had the confrontation with the other cat? If so, she could still be smelling his scent which is leading her to try to cover his scent with her own. I would keep her out of the sunroom for a couple of days, and during those days I would thoroughly clean the places where she peed and pooped with an enzymatic cleanser such as Nok Out (my favorite) or Nature's Miracle. I would also spray the screen with the enzymatic cleanser as well as the outside wall and ground where the other cat stood during the confrontation. After a couple of days the other cat's scent (and your cat's naughty scents) will be out of the room which should make it safe for her again.

But....please do keep an eye on her. Inappropriate urination and pooping are signs of medical problems. So, if it continues you will need to take her to the vet to rule out illness.

Yes, she was in the sunroom when she saw the other cat. The only thing between them was the mosquito screen...
She is very healthy, so I don't think it's a medical problem, but I will watch for anything different. I truly believe this has to do with the other cat. I have Nok-Out, and I have to agree it's the BEST thing around... I'll see if that works as far as her not doing it again... I really don't mind the cleaning, but what worries me is that she just decides to do it again and again. I hope she'll behave.

In all seriousness..you may want to find out who owns the outdoor cat and find out if it is neutered/spayed. If this is the first and only time that your cat has behaved this way..it MAY be a warning to the other cat that the sunroom belongs to her. Territorial marking is one way that cats claim their area. Still....you should probably follow up on the cat outside and verify that it has an owner.

Make sure you also remove the other cat's scent. If she can still smell him, she may continue the behavior.

By the way, cats who have urinary tract infections or blockages rarely show any outward sign that they are sick -- other than pottying outside the litterbox. So, just because she doesn't look sick does not rule out a medical problem!

But, I agree at this point, that she is likely still responding to the other cat's scent. So, rule this out first and if she continues pottying inappropriately, look for a medical cause.
