ok so this is a long story... a couple weeks ago i was sitting in my living room at 12 at night watching tv and something ran into the screen door.. my dog who is a rottwieler, who owns the porch, attacked whatever it was... i turned on my light to find a kitten sprawled there unharmed by the dog, who i shooed back to sleep,i took the kitten inside and awoke my grandma who told me to put it outside because we couldn't do anything to help it we already have lots of farm animals, but i wouldn't give up. For a few days it sat somewhere outside and meowed 23/7 and i felt bad for it cause it had obviously lost its mother or been abandoned and it may not survive. One day day i ran outside and meowed my heart out and followed the kittens resposes to find it in a tobaccco field. i chased it in a attempt to catch it and it ran into a rhy field and then gave up. The next morning i found it in the spare tire of my envoy after it had enjoyed trips to town and back unharmed and for a week it stayed there till it moved to under my porch where it stayed till today when we finallly caught it by placing my aunts cat carrier near the porch and putting tuna inside and we closed the door once it was eating and voila. It still has its imbilical cord and we have been feeding it wet cat food but it hasn't pooped or anything. Its friendly and it purrs like a madcat and it just goes to sleep when you put it in your lap and pet it, when you hold it doesn't retaliate. Anyways it looks bloated from all the food we gave it and we are going to keep it... name it convoy cause the convoys in the envoy....anyways we started giving it carnation milk, my aunts vet told her to give that to her new born kittens when they died.. and it ate all of it but still no poop...we think it might be having problems from all the cat food. What should we do it looks like it is about 4 or 5 weeks and we plan on calling a vet tomarrow , which happens to be my little brothers birthday, but until then what should i do?

I am sure someone more helpful will come along, but the poor dear need's a vet. If it's young, it will need stimulation that is normally given by the mom to make him/her go potty. You can go to www.kitten-rescue.com and it can give you tips on how to properly stimulate. It also offer's a wonderful array of useful information that will help you out, but he/she need's a vet asap. If you have other cat's, make sure they stay seperated until a vet visit is made. Good luck, welcome to TCS, and thank you for rescuing the poor dear!

I am not sure why the stimulation is not working. Since it's not, it's even more of an immediate concern to get vet treatment asap. The poor dear could have any number of intestinal parasites preventing it from going to the bathroom. Keep trying stimulation, and get the baby to a vet soon!

I think taking it to the vet is a good idea.

I think hes ok now cause he managed to go to the bathroom in the kitty litter at night and on my grandmas shirt. i am trying to get my grandparents to call the vet we call in for the horses to come and check out the kitty cause he might have a disease but i doubt it cause he is very young. Ss it normal for it to have had a slightly closed eye when i first found it with some pus like stuff on it? Or could that be a infection? Maybe his eyes weren't open yet but they look fine now. And can a kitten have a very loud purr or is that a sign of a respitory infection.

Best thing is to have your vet look the kitten over..the vet can answer all your questions.

Half-shut eye with pus means infection, plain and simple. Kitties' eyes open during their first week, so this is not because his eyes just opened.

His umbilical cord should have fallen off in the first few days after birth. A vet should probably remove it at this point. If it comes off on its own, you MUST keep an eye on it to watch for infection as that is very likely.

Unless you have other cats in the house, you will likely have to teach kitty to use the litter box. They learn quickest from other cats. If you have to teach kitty that this is the place to go, there will probably be a few accidents. You MUST clean up any place kitty has gone to the bathroom outside of the box with an ENZYME cleaner. These can be purchased at pet stores. They're not sold in supermarkets (around here, anyway). The most popular brand name (again, around here) is "Nature's Magic." Follow the instructions on the bottle. Cleaning with regular cleaners DOES NOT WORK. Humans may not be able to smell it anymore, but cats (and kittens) can, and this is what matters. If kitty smells where he's gone to the bathroom before, he's likely to think it's OK to go to the bathroom there again. Even better is to both use the enzyme cleaner and put aluminum foil over the area - this will further discourage kitty from using the same area outside of the box. Don't punish kitty for not using the box - they don't understand what you're communicating. DO praise kitty lots when he does use the box.

Kitty needs to see a vet.

Thank you for rescuing this kitten!
