I've had my hamster Carmie for over a year, and he's never had any problems. A while back, I noticed he was getting a bump on his belly, and when I noticed it was looking worse, we tried contacting a few close vets (including the one our cats and dogs go to) and none of them look at hamsters. Now I'm noticing a weird bump/growth by his ear, and I'm getting a little worried. He acts fine, but no vets are offering to look at him, and I don't want anything to happen to the little guy. Any ideas/advice? Please send Carmie some vibes and wishes that everything will be okay.

Hate to say it but it sounds like a tumor. Does he have any fur loss or does he scrach at it? I had a hamster called Jarry once (R.I.P
) he got a tumor before so I know a bit on treating it. If it is a tumor your probably gonna have to do surgery and most hamsters die after surgery. But I have herd that some hamsters can live with a tumor.

I'm sorry to hear about Carmie.
How old is he? I used to have hamsters when I was younger. They only lived to be 2-4.

It could be a tumor or it could be an abcess. Is there a scab on the bump?

hamsters usually can live with tumors for a while. But if they are going through alot of pain it is best to put them down. Try looking up an exotic vet. they usually will do hams. But only let them treat your hamster if they have a degree in small anaimals.

I've had him a little over a year, but I'm not too sure how old he was when I brought him home.. they said he was one of the older ones, so I'm guessing he's getting old.

I haven't noticed any fur loss, and he doesn't seem to scratch at it. He acts fine, so I'm not too worried, but just seeing it makes me wonder.

I know Kansas State Uni has a vet med programme that you can specialise in small animals, you could try contacting them for a referral for someone more local if you aren't near there.
They may be able to help you a little over the phone with a possible diagnosis
