Collar just annoying him, or actually making him itch?

I just put Milo's new Beastie Band on him this morning. He has been itching around it quite a bit and licking it (which can't feel good on his little tongue!). I know it hasn't been on long, so do you think the itching may just be because he is not used to having something on his neck, or could it actually be irritating his skin or something? I figure I'll give it another day or so unless I see something that makes me think its really hurting him......

If he's never worn a collar previously it's probably just driving him nuts.

Give him a little while to get use to it. Kricket still scratces at hers. I'll take it off her for half hour or so a week and give her good scratchings around her neck. She has had her for a month now and still isnt completely use to it. Good Luck!!

i dont know, my 9 month old cat has never worn a collar in her life before i put one on her the other day and it doesnt bother her one bit.

I'd give it a little time.... and dont freak out if the hair around the neck starts to thin a little - as long as there's no actual skin irritation, he should be ok... it took Oliver a little to get used to his and his hair is a little thin around his neck, but it's just natural (ok, weird comparison, but I've been wearing my HS class ring since my junior year and I'm now a 5th year college senior, I dont have any hair left on that finger, haha.... stupid recessive finger hair trait! At least I'm blonde though, haha).... anyhow, he should be ok once he gets used to it... we always give Ollie good neck scritchies which he always appreciates

Thanks everyone! He seems to be doing a bit better today, so I think I agree with y'all that its just annoying him. And yes, I've noticed on Marlee's neck that her hair has thinned a bit, but no skin irritation!
