I was driving home from work today, and saw a lady walking her dog. Now, I am using walking in the loosest sense of the word. She was also smoking a cigarette and chatting on her cell phone at the same time. Usually when I was charged with walking the dog as a kid, I would take that time to bond with the animal. We would have "conversations" and I would look around at the scenery. This brings me to the question; do you think that we are doing too much? Today, do we really have to be so connected that when we walk our dogs, we have our cell phones with us, and are expected to answer if someone calls? Do people have any real time to just be?

I'm beginning to wonder if this is a lost art. I actually use times like standing in line to just be quiet. All around me I see people (especially those much younger)having some sort of stimulai all of the time. If it isn't the cell phone, it's the iPod, or a video game, or on long trips, a DVD.

I stepped out of the rat race years ago. I took a huge pay cut, lowered my standard of living a bit, and now try and enjoy life every day.
The people and animals I love and my gardening are the prime focus of my life.

I completely agree with you. There is no reason to be continually on the phone. Nobody is that important!
It amazes me when I see people on the phone when they are out to dinner with other people, etc. Enjoy the people you're with!

Same here only I left the race this winter-must be the older we get the more we appreciate the simple things in life
This year my gardens have reaped the benefits of me being here fulltime & in turn I get the joy of flowers, birds & butterflies -Especially the masses of Monarchs that have come to my acres of Milkweed to lay their eggs-I wonder how many people will even know what a Monarch is in the future let alone know how to be with people if they're not attached to something electronic-

I must plant 20 new milkweed plants a year just to feed little baby Monarch caterpillars

We live in a very rural area & I just stopped cutting our fields to let the milkweed take over-My 80 yr. old neighbor noticed all the Monarchs around my yard & I now have him leaving it in his fields
-a neighbor on the other end of the road stopped tonight & was watching the caterpillars (must be 50-75 by the porch alone ) & has now decided to leave hers-I read there are natural garden places that will buy ripe pods for $5 a pod- My niece & I figured we could easily pick 10,000 & still have plenty left for here
