I went to the denstist this morning for the first time in about 5 years. Some of you may have read about my fall in a bar that resulted in a broken nose and badly chipped front tooth in the "Embarassing Moments" thread. Anyway, the chip was filled in with composite and the compostie has been stained and looks pretty bad on close inspection.

Today my dentist worked out an action plan to give me a beautiful smile. I'm wondering if anyone else has had any of these procedures.

First, I have to have my teeth debrided (b/c of the lenght betwwen dental visits). I have no cavities luckily. I hear debridement is pretty bad.

Then, I am getting my teeth whitened. The composite won't whiten, so its going to get worse before it gets better.

Then, my dentist is going to match my newly whitened teeth and bond it with composite, this time over the whole tooth, not just fill in the chip.

Finally, I am going to have my front teeth shaved.

I'm actually excited about it (I'm sure I won't be when I see the bill) but nervous, because I am not really into pain. Has anyone ever gone thru any of this?

I have a chipped front tooth too. I want my teeth whitened really bad. I think when it is time to replace the chip then I will get them whitened too. I am scared though. It all sounds painful! Good luck!!

I've had all of this done! My teeth are a total mess! My 2 front ones are fake from a fall at 12yo. And the rest are a disaster as well. Whitening is great, but you gotta give up coffee, tea, soda, anything that's not clear... cherry pie, tomato sauce, raspberries, blueberries etc. Or drink through a straw closer to the back of your mouth. I had the Zoom 2 whitening like they do on Extreme make-over, it was $700. Good Luck!

I'm not doing the Zoom, just the regular custom trays. The discoloration of the chip will be so obvious anyway until its replaced, why whiten in one day? It so much more expensive. The only advantage I can see is if you needed quick results for a special event, like a wedding.

Youch, I think the bill is going to hurt more than the procedures! I don't even know what "debrided" means, and I'm afraid to find out.
Good luck with it all.

No Vacancy...One on the way!
I've thought about forking over the cash and having my teeth whitened, but if I save the couple hundred dollars I might as well save more and get lasik eye surgery and if I save up for that I should just get that no more body hair surgery and if I get that done I might as well get smaller boobs, and if I do that...you see I would just want to do more and more. So instead i spend a couple extra bucks and get whitening tooth paste, wear contacts and use veet and wear sliming bras (im like a 36C and about a buck 25 but to me I look awkward)

I think its great your going all out and getting your teeth made perfect. A great healthy smile can take years off your look and I think its makes ya feel confident!

i picture a power sander, two dental techs holding on for dear life and a very long extension cord mixed with novacain and bad left over taste of plastic in your mouth for weeks.

debreavement is a fancy word for deep cleaning ... I have yet to get brave enough to get my teeth cleaned ... I hope your wallet survives... one dentist told me I needed deep debreavement ( he was a crook) and it was 75 an hour plus a cleaning fee

I have two broken front teeth from when I was little falling down and hitting my teeth on the concrete. For years I had temporary bonding on my teeth. This past May I got my teeth fixed. I have received many compliments on them. I got my teeth whitened too. They made impressions of my teeth so they could make me new ones. After that, they sawed down most of my front teeth and placed porcelain veneers on them. They are very pretty. They look natural. I would recommend going to a cosmetic dentist. I was referred to one when I asked about getting my teeth fixed by my old dentist. Your two front teeth are the most important in my opinion because that's what shows when you smile. You will feel soo much better when you get yours fixed. I know I do.
