I've just joined this site, at the suggestion of a friend. I've already posted an introduction message, but, unfortunately, I think I posted it as a reply to someone else's introduction. So, if you're reading this for the second time, my apologies.

I've taken a look around the site, and I googled "ear amputation" - nothing like starting out with a big topic, huh? Well it's something I'm facing with my 9 yr. old tabby right now. But I ended up on a thread about leg amputation, and I was in tears by the end of the thread. One member was trying to decide whether to amputate or euthanize (several complicating factors involved). The people on this sight appear to be the types that I have always found real animal lovers to be: kind, compassionate, and so ready to help.

I don't know what happened to the cat that I was reading about since the internet shut down and I lost the page, but, I have no doubt that the owner made the right choice because she made it with a loving heart.

See you prowling on the forums.....

BTW: 6 cats at present
1. Milo (ear problem), 9 yrs, grey tabby, male
2. Baby (fat problem), 9 yrs, black, male
3. Chloe (cute problem), 3 yrs, calico, female
4. Buddy (ugly problem), 3 yrs, black/white, male
5. Max (location problem....AWOL), 2 yrs, orange tabby, male
6. Sam (socialization problem), ? yrs, not old, probably Maine Coon

What a great group! Thanks for the warm welcomes!

Max, my cat with the "location problem", lol, was "Absent With Out Leave" for almost a week. I have to put the blame where it belongs, and that's on Sam, my cat with the "socialization problem". Sam was enjoying a rare treat last Saturday -- some time out in the yard chasing bugs and rolling around in the grass. (I actually have to keep Sam harnessed and leashed in the family room during the day because he doesn't like the other 5 cats. I let him off to wander around the garage and to play outside. It's not ideal, but I don't know what else to do with him, and I'm not putting him back outside to rejoin the ranks of the strays) Everything was picture perfect until Max rounded the corner of the house and caught Sammy's eye. Maxi-cat is a little guy for a full-grown male, and he is easily subdued by all things feline (even the girly cats, lol).

Sammy took off and headed after Max. My husband called Sam, who stopped running (good boy!), but Max was nothing more than a streak of orange as he disappeared into woods behind our house. I've been calling him for days - no response. I began to think of him being out there in that brutal heat wave, and it was breaking my heart.

Well, last night, I opened the sliding door to the porch around 11:30 PM to let Chloe, she of the "cute problem", back into the house. And who do you think came running in, cutting her off! Maxi-cat!

So, he's been sleeping, and sleeping, and sleeping, and sleeping - waking up to eat. He'll be out of commission for a few days, until he catches up on his sleep. But, at least I know where he is!

LOL...we are now on the morning of the fifth day since Max's return from his 5 day journey. You know what? He's still sleeping! I know he's healthy, because when he gets up to eat, he's just fine. His appetite is great, drinking water, etc. He even stares out the sliding glass doors while he waits for me to put his food down (the sliders are next to his bowl), but he's not making any noise to go out. But as soon as he's done eating (and bathing, lol), he hops back on the living couch, and he's off in dreamland within a few minutes.

And, oh boy, is he affectionate!

Thank for the kind words...you guys are super!
