My mom and my brother took Scratch to the vet this afternoon for a general check up/booster shots. The vet noticed that Scratch's right pupil is bigger than the other. o_O

Is this normal? Does anyone know the medical term for it?

if it's not a new thing, it's probably ok. my sister has one pupil that doesn't contract as much as the other. it's usually most noticeable in flash pictures - & it's always been that way.

If you're concerned, call the vet back tomorrow and get a full explaination.

Sometimes it's hard to think of all the questions you want to ask while you're there.

Just to make this clear-- the vet noticed it before he gave the booster shot, right, not you've noticed it since he got home???

If the vet noticed it before the shot, it's fine. My eyes are like that too, which is confusing when I need tested for a concussion (I have bad luck, among other things). It's called anisocoria.

There are many causes of it, some very scary, and some that are just how it is. In people anyway, I think maybe 20% of people have it to some degree. If they're not different enough that you noticed it before, it's probably nothing to worry about.

Yeah, the vet noticed it before the shot. I never really noticed her eye was like that before.

If its like that all the time, I'd be concerned. However, if the cat is an odd-eye white, then its very common to have different sizes. Because the blue eyes don't contract as well in the light. I had an odd-eye white rex and it was weird looking at times.

Here's a good article on aniscoria in cats:
http://www.petplace.com/cats/anisoco...ats/page1.aspx

I think your vet maybe should have done a little bit more about figuring out if it could have been more serious of a cause... but I wouldn't be panicking.

It would be very troublesome if this developed after the vaccinations, of course, as it can be indicative of a very serious reaction to the shots. As that's not the case, and the vet did see it, I agree with Satai. Just call him back and ask him more about it.

My Burt came back from the vets years ago after being put under for an xray. It really scared me, but they didn't seem too concerned. When I asked my vet here about it he stated it usually meant an infection going on somewhere in the body, and that is what it turned out to be. I have noticed over the years that as he got older the pupil stayed a little bigger and is now somewhat deformed, but at 15 I'm not going to worry about it unless it seems to bother him. If it is something that your cat has had for a long time, I wouldn't worry, but if it comes up suddenly, definitely check for an infection through a blood test. Good luck!

Unfortunately we had to put her down[emoji]128557[/emoji] She had a tumor in her chest and her liver was shutting down.
