I was smoking a cigarette (and I know its a gross habit) and Prince came up to the ash tray and like sniffed my smoke and walked away
I was wondering second hand smoke is bad for people but what aout pets? When I smoke I usually go outside but it was at like 2 in the morning and was scared to go out there by myself

It's far worse.
Their respiratory systems are much smaller and much, much more sensitive than ours.

I also smoke, but never in the house for the sake of my pets.

Not at all dumb, sometimes, the most obvious things never occur to us.
It happens to everyone, I assure you

Yes - its more dangerous as the animals are smaller then a human and will be affected quicker and more severe.

Your best bet is to quit entirely!

One other comment. I started showing cats in mid 70's. Back then smoking was allowed in the show halls. Now picture a lot of cats that are sitting in cages ALL day and then having to breathe smoke ALL day - they cannot escape the effects.

Not sure when the smoking ban was put in effect, but thank God it was banned by 1980. Back then it was clear that 2nd hand smoking WAS harmful to both pets and non-smokers!

Yup just as bad for pets as for us.... of course the best thing is to quit, but if you don't want to and can't get outside, try to sit by an open window and blow out - or some people smoke under their kitchen exhaust fans or next to their air purifiers.... at the very least, keep the pets out of the room you're currently smoking in - of course that doesnt solve the problem, but they won't inhale quite as much

yea if we dont go outside i try to go near a window or something. i always try not to smoke around my cats either because i wouldnt smoke around kids if i had them and they are my kids. but since i read all the replies and that link to that site it really made me think more about how often and where we smoke in the house. I dont want to give my babies cancer or hurt them or put them in harms way, so i think if i cant stop smoking to start going outside more
