It has come to my attention that there is a colony of some kind near my office building. I've only seen one cat, smallish but not kitten-sized. I couldn't get closer than about 15-20 feet when I tested the waters to see if I could approach him/her.

From mentioning it to other co-workers, I've heard that there is at least one litter of kittens. No idea on ages or anything because I haven't personally seen them.

I really want to help these cats, even if all I can do is TNR. I'm a member of Alley Cat Allies and I donate to them, and I know they have a lot of good materials to study. There is a lot of information that I'm studying here, as well. It's fortunate that we have Hissy here, it seems like she's a feral expert.

I definitely plan to read all the information here, and also follow the links from the stickied threads, but since this is my first foray into trying to help stray/feral cats, I'd really like it if someone might be willing to maybe mentor me a little? Allow me to bother him/her with PMs and questions and the like? Just a little virtual hand-holding while I'm getting started.

Can anyone help me out?

You can also join this site:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/feral_cats/

They have lots of good information in their "files" section and are very friendly.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I wish I could offer my time to help hand hold, but I just don' t have the time! I think Katie's suggestion of the Yahoo groups is good, but you can post here as well.
(And you can do both, too!)

Thank you for helping these cats/kittens - and just remember - we all started someplace! Feel free to ask anything without embarassment.

You can basically click on any of the links in LDG's posts, or search her other postings for detailed advice on similar situations. I highly suggest you do this.

Good luck and thanks for taking on the job of helping these felines!
