I just adopted a 6 month old kitten Marley on Friday. On Monday we introduced him to my 2 year old Blue. At first Blue was a little aggressive with Marley but now that has seemed to stop. (Unless Marley goes near her food). Today they have been chasing each other around, is that a good sign that they are playing with each other or is this a bad thing? I don't have much experience with this. When we adopted Blue I had my 16 year old Misty, who passed away on 7/23. The two of them never really got along they just tolerated each other. They never chased each other though. Sometimes Blue would try to play with her but she was very old and wasn't interested. Any insite on this is appreaciated.

It sounds as if they are just getting to know each other and figuring out who's the boss. Here is a bit of my own experience with this...When I introduced Eeyore(4mo) to Diego (8mo) there was a bit of hissing and growling and then a bit of kisses...lol...and chasing...Diego would dominate the little one by pinning him and then putting his mouth around his neck and then licking him...back and forth...nothing was too crazy..there was no biting..just a lot of rough play and Diego was being bossy and pushy. Occasionally Eeyore would yelp but upon investigation it was Diego holding him down and the baby was getting annoyed...lol
They played and chased and both were covered with scratches but at the end of it all they would snuggle up...and still do
I think your cats will get along just fine

I hope so. I really want them to get alone. Your cats sleep together? How long before that happened? Are you're cats both males? I have a male and a female, the kitten is a male and is very affectionate but my female is only affectionate when she feels like it.

It sounds perfectly normal play time. My two chase each other practically every day along with giving each other a slam dunk.

Sometimes one of them can play a bit too rough which makes the other one let out a meow but then they just part and go their seperate ways, then as the other poster said the next time you see them they'll be snuggled up with each other.

It sounds like to me they are just playing. My kittens run back and forth across the house like a small herd of cattle...lol

Mine are littermates but I have had non-littermates do the same thing. I am sure once they get to know each other better they may sleep together or they may not. It depends on the cat.

I have some cats that are more than happy to sleep and cuddle with the kittens and others that won't give them the time of day.

It just takes time

Prego and Polly love to play chase. It's just a fun game for them. If they are playing together already, that is a really good sign. It took Prego and Polly a couple weeks to start playing together. Even though they play together a lot, I never see them sleeping snuggled together.

Sounds like playing to me. I think your older cat will let the newbie know when enough is enough.

both cats are male and altered and they slept together the first night they met! they are sphynx's and are very affectionate in general. I think females are far more aloof than males. I was told that two males would make better playmates although male/female are fine as well just that the females are generally not as affectionate. I think at the end of the day every cat has its own personality and if yours are only chasing and there is no fighting or growling they will be just dandy together

There's no place like home
The cat in the lead in a game of chase often has its tail in a bowed position - it rises up slightly from their rump then arches down. It's a sign between cats that they want to play. Watch their body language - I bet they are quickly becoming friends and what you are seeing is simply play.

That's wierd that you said that about the tail because I just noticed that this afternoon and was a little concerned about it. Blue was being chased by Marley and her tail was exactally as you described it. They seem to be getting along better now, they even seem to be having fun with each other.

If you have the inkeling that it may not be just play look at your cats tails and ears. My kitten and my aproximetly 5 year old persian chase eachother all the time. Sometimes I'm unsure weather my older cat is happy or not because of the sounds he's making (he makes weird noises all the time due to lack of noseage) insted of breaking the two up I look to see if 1) his tail is up 2) his ears are up if your cats ears are back it means he/she is unhappy. The tail can varry from cat to cat when my kitten play's she arches her tail as if she were angry but its only mock for the sake of play
