I have seen two different types of brushes, and have no idea what each is used for. What is a Slicker brush, and what does it do? How is it different than a regular brush? Vodka is a domestic shorthair. Which one do I use?

But what is the difference? What do the metal pins do compared to the bristle brushes? Which ones are best for grooming?

The brush I have is a detangler/smoother/coat shiner brush, I believe the slicker brush is the one that gives the coat a shine as you brush it over the fur to help keep it healthy looking

I made a thread about a new brush I bought. I've been using a slicker brush, but it was a small one made for cats. I've moved up to a larger curved one that covers more area and thus gets more hair making each brush stroke count for something. Both of my cats love this new brush.

The brush gets to the undercoat which is the part that sheds, plus it smooths the fur from top to bottom and picks up loose hair that is left behind as you stroke. Regular bristle brushes really only get the top layer and doesn't address the undercoat problem which is where most tangles and mats start.
