What did you want to be and why didn't you get to be that??

I wanted to be various things such as a teacher, but I don't like kids that much
a vet, but I don't do well with blood and stuff

an engineer, but i hate math
and lastly, a psychologist, but I didn't want to go to school for 10 years

so here I am as a data entry clerk/billing specialist!

I always wanted to be a big CEO of a company or something - like Donald Trump

Then I wanted to be a Fashion Designer - which, I still want to be. I always wanted to be on What Not to Wear, on TLC, just so I can meet Stacy & Clinton
I adore them!

In all reality, I've always wanted to be a Dental Hygenist, or a Dentist.... I hope to be able to go back to school for that someday

But... here I am... and Office Administrator for a body shop

I want to be a lecturer at university. I am finishing my MA soon, hopefully - then I start my PhD.

First a doctor...that warped into a vet. Then I decided I despised biology. So I had a knack for electronics and computers so I got into that and went to school for Computer Science. Now I'm going back to school for Bioinformatics. I don't think bioinformatics is something a child aspires too.

I wanted to be a famous (and fabulously wealthy) published author.

I'm a published author. I'm not famous, and I'm far from wealthy. It turns out that the writing world doesn't actually work that way. Who knew?
Maybe I'll publish something someday that makes me the Next Big Thing, but until then, I'm happy enough being obscure.

I wanted to be an archaeologist until I saw a picture of a mummy in a book and it freaked me out.
I think I was probably about 5 at the time.

Other than that I always wanted/want to be a writer. Hasn't quite worked out. Actually, earlier this year I applied to, and was rejected by, a couple of graduate writing programs.

So next week I start work as a Grant Developer for the Parks Department. (I was a lawyer for a while, but I hated that.)

I wanted to be an astronaut, a lawyer, then a doctor. I was pre-med for a year, then turned out not to be so good at organic chemistry. I ended up as an archaeologist (bioarchaeologist, more specifically). For now, I stay at home with my kids, but as soon as they are both in preschool/school, I'm going back to school to get my master's. It's funny though. Despite my generations exposure to archaeology, I never actually wanted to be one when I grew up!

Hey, see my answer up there--I wanted to be an archaeologist!
What's a bioarchaeologist? That's not something I've ever heard of.

In retrospect I think I would have enjoyed being a financial advisor. Thats also not something one thinks about growing up.

A bioarchaeologist is actually a pretty broad description as well. Bioarchaeologists can study human remains, plant remains, pollen counts, chemical elements found in archaeological remains, etc. I study archaeological skeletal remains for pathologies--paleopathology (dental caries, enamel hypoplasias, TB, syphilis, anemia, etc.) within a "community." I've also done a few forensic cases for the state, as the crime lab in Arkansas is not equipped to handle skeletal remains. I can't wait to get back into it full time. Right now, I just get into the bone lab once every other month or so to keep my skills fresh.

I'm hoping to go back to school, my company pays for it, and get a degree in Industrial Psych (company has to approve program, but hey psych is psych) so that when I retire from here, 23 years to go
, I can go back to work as a school psychologist, a perfect combo of 2 of my dream jobs
I'll only be 51 when i get 30 years here, so i figure I'll have at least another 15-20 years of work left in me, I do LIKE to work
plus with summers off? Ah, the bet laid plans of mice and men though

I knew from the time I was a little kid that I wanted to be a writer. Just took a while and bunch of other jobs (Army, restaurant manager, insurance claims adjuster) to get around to it. I wouldn't say it was my goal to work at a Catholic newspaper, but at least I'm writing. Still working on the "Sisters get Saucy" story!
