Hi, my name is Jenny and I am new to this site. I currently have two cats, Oliver and Abu, and have rescued a mother cat with 3 kittens. I enjoy cats immensely and have often wanted to start my own rescue shelter in my hometown for cats. Any ideas would be helpful, thanks!!

Hello Jenny, glad to have you aboard!! I don't know how to go about starting a shelter but there are a few people on this board who work in rescues and work with shelters and I'm sure they'll be glad to help you.

When you get the chance please post more about your kittys as we'd love to read more about them and we LOVE pictures.

Hi, thanks for the welcome! My cat Oliver is a white and orange fat cat who is very laid back. He loves to steal my contact cases and hide them under the furniture. Abu is his sister who I call BooBoo. She is very lovable and loves to play. Boo likes to be held where Oliver likes to sit in front of the tv. I have had them for a year and half now and don't know where I would be without them. They are like my children!! I have recently rescued another cat with her 3 kittens. I have named her Duchess and have decided to keep her. Two of the kittens have just gone off to live with my sister and the other kitten is about to go off with my other sister. I am very proud of them because they were little wild ones when I first got them!!!

Hi and welcome among us !
I hope you'll enjoy your stay here : people are very nice and friendly.
I am from France and have myself a female cat whose name is Pitoune; she's very loving. She is totally grey.

Do come over as often as you wish. If you have some pictures of your kitties, we would love to see them !!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Hi! I'm new to the site and to cats. Just today my husband and I rescued an abandoned feral kitty, and had already named her BooBoo! I hope we help her to turn out like your Boo. We adopted a stray last year (a maine coon pure bred who must have run away), though she mostly lives outside. This feral family turned up in the woods behind us in June. We were waiting until the kittens were 12 weeks old to trap them all and get Mom spayed. The whole family, save one little kitten, disappeared several days ago, so we just caught little boo. Her cries of the last couple of days would break your heart.

Hope you're able to start a rescue shelter. I know it would be a lot of work, and probably just as heartbreaking as heartwarming. This is a great site with a lot of helpful people. You should write a new thread in either the Feral or the Cat S.O.S. Forum - I'm sure you'll find lots of helpful advisors. Good Luck!

Hi, Jenny. Perhaps Hissy will answer you more specifically. I would post this desire under Feral Cats. In the meantime, you can start getting information at http://www.alleycat.org/
At that site, one Hissy often recommends, you will find a link to Pets 911, which should give you some more ideas. Each link seems to lead to another. Many will be asking for the public's help in their cause, but I think you will find articles about raising public and private monies that will prove helpful, also experiences these organizations have had that may be pertinent. The very best of luck!

Welcome to the site Jenny! That was a really great thing you did for the mother cat and her kittens. Your Oliver and Abu sound like wonderful companions. How are they accepting Dutchess? I think you are very courageous for wanting to start a rescue in your area.
I'm sure you can get some good hints and ideas around here.

Welcome to the site! I also have a big fat white and orange boy - his name is Excalibur. I don't know what I would do without mine! I hope to see you posting often. We love pics, so post some if you can!
