I was at work last night, with everything running just fine, and, having little else to do, let my mind wander a bit.

I ended up thinking about the days with the Atlantic fleet in the military, and about an English officer that I met years ago named Gough (he pronounced it Golf") That in turn led to me remembering the wonderful breakfast that he introduced me to, which he called "boiled egg and soldiers". Needless to say, that is all I thought about the rest of the night.

I actually remembered everthing, scoring the bread before toasting it so that it can be broken apart into little "soldiers" to dip in the egg. It was JUST as good as I remembered, then followed up with strawberrys and whipped cream.

Beats me how I ever managed to forget something so good

Everyone has email these days - see if you can look him up and tell him that story, I'm sure it would brighten his day!

I hate it when I get a food in my head and thats all I can think about, especially if I can't get it
That looks good though, are the eggs kinda liked poached but still in the shell?

Haven't heard of "soldiers & eggs" in a while! I love my eggs soft boiled so I can dip my toasty soldiers in them.
