From what you are sounding it seems like contractions. That is the very thing I thought when I saw my baby. She was laying on the floor beside me very quiet, though all cats are very very different when it comes to labor, but she laid there and I thought I saw a jerk. I dismissed it as hiccups too, but sure enough by 5 she was delivering her first kitten and I hadn't even realized she was in labor.

So the hiccups you may have seen may have been a contractions, and if she is more lovely and wanting you to be there than usual don't fret she is just needing your comfort at this time. My baby was layign on her birthing blanket with placenta I believe out inch or so of the way and came to get me like MAMA COME ON I CANT DO IT ALONE! lol her greenish glop, which was the plug came out all on one day as well. So to me, from what I went through it sounds like yes she is. Keep an eye on her and make sure to close off all undersirable birthing locations b/c they will seek out beds, dressers, and mattress, all the most dangerous places to have their young
Breath, relax, and keep us posted she will be fine

Sounds like definite labor to me hon. Stay with her if you can. Maybe if you stay in one room she will stay in one room. If she is panting and purring it really sounds like labor. Remember purring is also a sign of great pain as well. Do the other things you must and then give her the attention you can b/c when I noticed what I thought was a hiccup that was at 8:00 am before I started work and she didnt have her first kit until 5:00 pm so try to get some things done as well just keep a good eye on her and keep her from under the dangerous surfaces.

an ice cube in Iowa...
I know this sounds really awful, and normally I don't support doing this on a daily basis, but could you put the kids in their pack-n-play, and put in a movie for the little ones? That way you can monitor the birth, and keep your eye on the kids too...

If that's not possible, and your little ones are too big for the playpen idea, then I would pop in and out of the kitty room frequently...5 minute intervals, so that I can monitor the situation, and your kids too! You have your hands full!
