I went out to water my plants on the front porch. There sat a little calico cat, about six months old. When I poured the water on the plants, she jumped up in the middle of one of the pots and started licking the water off the plants. I gave her a small bowl of water and she drank like she never had any. She is very friendly and was trying to get in my lap when I sat down. I don't know what to do with her. I don't want another cat right now.
I don't have any close neighbors so I think someone dropped her off in front of my house. Not sure what to do. But she is super cute.

oh, dear. what a dilemma. maybe she was in season and wandered/got chased out of her territory and is now lost
i hope that you can give her sanctuary for the time being. this summer weather is so harsh on man and beast. what is your main reason, besides being in mourning for max, that a 3rd cat wouldn't work out now (supposing that she goes unclaimed, of course).

The reasons I don't want to keep her are:

1. Both the cats I have now are high maintenance. They have histories of urinary problems and have to eat "gourmet" food from the vet's office.

2. I have responsibility for my daddy who is 88 yrs. old. He is still trying to live alone, but the doctor says he should be somewhere else. One of my sister's left for the summer. The other one is in Ms. and won't come home to help me. I sort of feel like I have all I want to take care of for now.

The cat spent the night on my porch. I knew she would when I fed her. But I am a sucker and can't stand to see hungry animals. Speedboat and Muffin live in the backyard within a chainlink fence that has a cat enclosure around the top. So for now the cat can't get where they are.

She is on my front porch for now. I can't have inside cats because of my husband's allergies. I have fed her and given her some water. She spent the night on a rug out there. She is not a feral cat. She is very friendly and tries to grab my leg when I turn around to leave. Don't the little rascals know how to win your heart. I can't imagine where she came from unless someone put her out at my house. I called the only close neighbor I have. Their son said just kill her if you don't want her. I knew they had barn cats and thought it could be one of their cats. I don't know what I will do, but we won't kill her. She is too sweet for that. I am really kind of torn about what to do with her. Last year Max died suddenly with kidney failure. I told the Lord then that if a cat showed up on my doorstep, I would know I was supposed to have another cat. It didn't happen and I forgot about it. Now here is a cat on my doorstep.

I would have her vet checked.....and if she is not spayed, I would go ahead and have her spayed or you may find yourself caring for an outdoor pregnant cat. You can even ask the vet if they know anyone looking for a young calico.

I got in touch yesterday with someone from an organization called PAWS in our county. The woman told me they could pay for shots and mayb e1/2 of the bill to spay her. She said they could try to find her a home, or I could keep her for my cat. I am waiting for her to call me back with some specifice instructions. The little cat stays on my front porch and is really very sweet and loving. I am calling her Mattie for now. The reason for that being, three years ago we built our home on land that belonged to my Grandmother and Grandfather. Her name was Mattie. She raised me from age 1 1/2.

MATTIE DOES HAVE A NEW HOME! It looks like she is going to be our cat.
PAWS is going to help with the vet bill to get her shots, etc. I am going to call in the morning to get an appointment to take her in and get checked for leukemia, shots, and whatever else she needs. She is in a big cat cage on my front porch. I am not sure how old she is and I don't want a pregnant cat. She is just a sweet loving little cat. She was covered with fleas, but Frontline took care of that problem. The only other thing I see is one of her eyes is watery. I had some eye cream from the vet that was for Max. I have been putting that in her eye three times a day and hope that will clear it up. Anyone have any ideas what could cause that problem?

I have no ideas about the watery eye, but want to send you some {{{encouragement}}} prayers and vibes. Bless you for not only caring for cats with medical problems but also for assisting your elderly father - it can all be so stressful
Thank you for the update! Susan
