I was just asking about cactus and realized that I should start a thread asking for any kitty proofing tips. I have a couple weeks before we plan to adopt a cat or cats so I want to spend this time getting the house kitty proofed. Any and all tips are appreciated. List away please!

Congratulations on your new kitty or kitties!

As far as kitty proofing goes, once you have your kitties home you are going to suddenly discover that lots of things you didn't think were cat toys actually are.
It's hard to say specifically what you should do, because a lot depends on the specific cat and what it gets into. As a general rule, don't keep any plants that are potentially poisonous because many cats like to chew on house plants. Any delicate glassware, crystal, porcelain, etc. should be put somewhere out of reach. Ideally you have a breakfront or some other closed place you can put that stuff. If not, put it somewhere high and relatively stable and hope for the best (there are spots in our apartment we never thought the kitties could get to until we put something up there that they found desirable and, well, they found a way). If you get a kitten or young cat, tuck away your electrical cords and consider getting covers for those you can't tuck away, because some kittens like to chew cords. I'm sure others will be along with other suggestions! Good luck and please share pictures when your newbie is home!

We're planning on getting a little older cat or cats (like 2 years or older) so that we can see their personalities already when we go to adopt them. Hopefully I won't have to worry about chewing on cords then. I'll be sure to take pictures after we get the new fur babies or baby and post them here.
