Call me crazy but I agreed to adopt and show a red tabby (no white) NFC (NFO?) - I couldn't resist, after all, he's RED!!!
He'll be arriving August 12...

Just a few questions that I need replied, if possible...

1. Being in a hot, humid country, is it advisable to keep him in a/c (airconditioning) all year round?

2. What about grooming? There's been a lot of comments over here about forest cats having persian grooming - the coat should be flat on the body, not fluffed right?

3. What's the best way to maintain a show coat?

Help, please...

If you can, why not attend a show or two first and talk to the NFC breeders/owners there about grooming. Also you might check Amazon.com for a book on the breed for that info. Or even on the web - many breeders have grooming tips on their website, or you could email them and get info.

Now, is it not sure every breeder will take time to write lenghy mails to stranders. A little nice talk at an exhibition sure.

Best is to have the breeder of your cat as mentor and that is usual (in any case in Sweden). If it isnt working by any reason, you can go the ancestor line up, even among the sirs. (=the fathers).
Phone or mail, be nice, tell about the cat - their descendant; and ask the questions... After all, most good breeders are only happy to know about whereabouts of their descendands.

In any case in Sweden where almost all breeders are small, their cats being family cats. The farms with multiple cats kept in cages almost unknown.

I know the breeder quite well but the problem is simple actually...she's a GCCF breeder and most shows here are CFA, and both registries have a different attitude when it comes to grooming (and it's quite obvious!). GCCF doesn't mind a 'scraggly' coat, they are after all forest cats, and CFA likes their cats well groomed.

GoldenKitty, in your experience at shows and showing, have you seen scraggly coats on NFs or are they well groomed with winter coats preferred??
