Kitten hates the dog

We just got a kitten a few weeks ago and it seems to hate our dog. As soon as Yoda (cat) gets near Kosha (dog), she starts hissing at her. At that point, of course the dog then starts growling too. They have even gotten into a couple of fights already. One time, Kosha's ear was bleeding all over the floor from it...
I'm thinking that Yoda probably had some bad expiriences eary in life with dogs but I can't say for sure since her and another kitten (her sister?) were found abandoned in a barn.
Any advice on how I can get my Kitty to like my dog?

Cats take longer then a few weeks to warm up to another cat or dog. Even as kittens they are cautious. Sounds to me like the kitten had a bad dog experience before you adopted her and thinks ALL dogs are that way.

I'd not let them together unless you supervise till they get to know each other better.

We've had Larry Boy for 2 weeks now and he STILL totally freaks when Purdy comes near. Not mere hissing and puffing up, either. It's driving us crazy.

my guess is that your kitten isn't used to seeing dogs or has had a bad experience. they may never really get along but if you slowly introduce them to eachother and not keep them together for long periods of time your kitten will start to tolerate your dog.
