I had to do it guys, I had to! I went into a local drug store while on my lunch break. Well, outside is this big dog in this pick up truck. The air is not on, and the window is opened a crack.
Now, you have to understand it's supposed to be 94 today, (I'm sure it was there now) with a heat index of well over 100! This dog was panting......and looked awful..........I had my cell phone in my hand, calling and this idiot walkes out..........all I said was "good thing you just came back! I had my cell phone ready to call the cops" He just looked at me and said, "I was just in there a second........" REALLY!??? I stood there for 5 minutes debating what to do I told him.........He just told me to mind my own business..........and jumped in and drove away.............You have no idea how I wanted to yell things at him as he drove off, but I tried to have a little bit of class..........My heart brakes for his dog.......................

You may have prevented him from doing it again.
I would have been really ticked off too!

I'd have no qualms about calling the cops immediately. I just learned today that one of my students saw a toddler locked in a hot car on Friday (on a residential street, with no way of knowing where the parent was), and called the police to inform them that he was going to break the car open, as he couldn't wait till they got there. They told him to go ahead, and a patrol car got there within about 5 minutes. He'd already gotten the car open (hmmm, how many people have crowbars in their cars?) by then. He turned the little boy over to the police, and went to work, so doesn't know the outcome. The online "police report" just says that a toddler was locked in a hot car, and a passer-by "intervened".

I would have called too. Some people are so careless and stupid!!! I've called the cops several times on one of my old neighbors when I could hear them beat their dogs and their children. I was in my duplex doing dishes and had the TV on and could still hear the actual slap. Then I heard the kids yelling, "No, Daddy please stop!" Even on a good day the verbal abuse in that family was horrible.

I agree-I had a similiar thing happen to me when I was shoppping with a friend-we came out to car & next to my car was a little poodle in a car with windows up/dog was in trouble -I called police -The cops came just as the owners were coming to car-yelling at me for calling cops/they had been in store for a "minute"-I was everything in the books until the cops told them they were being ticketed for animal abuse, dog was removed from their car & taken to vet & I was in the right -Cops told me that actually if we hadn't called them & it was witnessed by another person I could have been fined per "Buster's Law" in NY-Law is designed to stop animal abuse by anyone-I've always wonderd what happen to the dog

I did that once at the grocery store. Someone left their dog in the car. I had my cellphone out and the guy next to me was giving me the number for state patrol when we both realized that the person left the car on with the air running for the dog. I thought that was so cool (no pun

I deff. would have called. I work at a grocery store and sometimes people bring their animals with them and l;eave them in the car and if someone sees it we page the person and if we dont get a response back in resonable time we call the police. And we always say "Would you leave your child in the car like that?"

I hate people.
why dont people go in there car and have the window
cracked and no a/c on.
if it was hot out side and had my dog with me
i would have took my dog inside with me or have the a/c on with a big bowl of water! that is not hard to do people!!

then i would have
a) called the cops
b) busted out the window and took the dog,, heck i want a dog anyway.

lol mostly A would have just thought about b

The same thing happened to me on Friday! My boyfriend and I were heading into a store in a small shopping plaza when I spotted this poor shaggy malamut (sp?) sitting in the backseat of a car -- with the windows rolled up! I didn't have my cellphone with me, so when I went into the store I asked the owners to call the police and told them about the dog; that's when this woman says "That's my dog and my car, and you go ahead and make all the fuss you want, if that's what makes you happy."
We exchanged words -- I managed NOT to swear at her or call her names, which was pretty restrained of me, considering that I was hot, tired and had just finished a frustrating day of work -- and she STILL left thinking she was in the right. I took down her license plate number and the make of her car, and called the police when I got home. I don't know if anything came of it, but it put me in a bad mood for the rest of the evening. Stupid, stupid

I used to work for a Animal Welfare Society and in my time there I had seen several animals brought in for autopsey by the police, animals that had been left in cars to boil to death.
I myself have since made 16 phone calls to police regarding animals locked in cars on hot days with not even a window open.
