When I first got my new kitten (about 2.5 weeks ago) I had her on Pro Plan wet. She really liked their fish dinner because it was flaked. Well, I wanted to switch her to something a little better and bought quite a bit of both Nutros because they were on sale at PetSmart.

The problem is, the Nutro seems to be very mushy and pureed and Vodka doesn't seem to like it as much. She pushes it into the corners of her bowl and can't seem to get to it as easily as the Pro Plan, which causes her to stop eating it. I have to taker her back to her dish and scrape the food out of the corners and move it to the center of her bowl before she will finish eating it.

I guess the question is, is there another better quality food that isnt as smooth, either chunky or more solid of a pate? I like that Nutro has meat as the first 5 or 6 ingredients, and I would like something comparable. TIA

Merrick makes some very excellent "stew" type canned foods. Their ingredients are great, and there are quite a few varieties of flavours to choose from. Good luck!

Hi! I have the same problem. Mine is currently eating Iams, which is her fav, in the pouches. I'm trying to wean her over to the pate of the same food so I can feed her better.

A weird thing-- often brands that have both cans and pouches, the cans are pate and the pouches are chunks.

Nutro makes pouches that are slices/chunks, but some members here have had some issues with the quality control there. They sell them at Petco, for sure. Don't know about other stores.

ETA: My cat hates pate and thusly, hates merrick. It's the gravy/the chunks that mine like. Merrick was actually less "approved" by Zissou than any other pate, even though she LOVED the smell.

I recently bought some Nature's Variety, Naturaql Balance and Merrick. My guys so far seem to prefer the Merrick which kind of surprised me because that seems to be little bitty chunks and they usually prefer the pate.

Of course I will be just as happy if we stick with the Merrick since it's a good deal cheaper than the Nature's Variety.

Something I discovered with the Natural Balance is that it is very thick and they seem to prefer it if I add a little warm water to soup it up a bit. I'm happy about that too since it will stretch it just a little bit further.

Sharky, Im feeding her the Gourmet Classics. I saw the pouches, but they didnt seem to have the same ingredients on the list...not as much meat.

The Merrick and Eagle Pack...are those at Petco, PetSmart, etc? I am moving in the next week or so, and Im not sure what other stores will be where I am moving to. I know for sure they have both a Petco and Petsmart.

I also vote for Merrick. Rosie just loves the Turducken. She doesn't like the fishy ones. Turducken, Grammy's Pot Pie and Thanksgiving Dinner are the only ones she'll eat but Turducken is her favorite.

Meow Mix Market Selects---they have really good ingredients and aren't the "patte" consistency....the shrimp and crab one has real chunks of tuna, shrimp and crab! It was the only thing that jump-started my kitten's appetite after he was sick.

If you have a Whole Foods Market in your area try their store brand canned cat food. It comes in chunks and some with more gravey than I care for, but the ingredients are decent from what I can tell, with the first ingredient being meat. No corn products & no meat by-products. Once you sift through the gravy of the chicken flavor, the chunks of meat actually look like pieces of chicken.
It comes in beef, chicken, and a variety of fish flavors.

The Merrick Thanksgiving Day Dinner and Granny's Pot Pie have a real human stew consistency (definitely not pate) and our two love them. They wouldn't eat any pate type food. Unfortunately the Merrick is very expensive here ($1.69 per 5 oz. can) but they are worth it.

This is the only one that my Ginger will eat - she won't touch the pate style OR the chunks with someone else's cat's mouth!

Twitch did the same thing!!

I have found that Nutro pouches are chunks in gravy(although I am not currently using them b/c of quality control issues like stated earlier), Meow Mix pouches/Market selects cups are chunkier in gravy, Iams pouches, Eukanuba pouches/cans(some cans are flaked), & Gourmet Classics....all are approved by my "chunks & gravy" girl. You might consider looking into finding some of those to try. I even got Twitch to eat Iams new cans a little, even though they are pate style, they have quite a bit of gravy.
