Is it normal for a mum cat to hiss and gnarl at her 3 month old kittens constantly? Its getting to the stage where the kittens are scared of mum cat and avoid her like the plague....the braver ones do a little baby hiss back.

She seems to aim her agression equally at the boy and girl kittens. The only time she can stand to be near them is at feeding time.

I wonder if she will mellow out as she is pregnant again?

We have given her a whole large room and cat tree to herself which she defends like crazy...no other cat is allowed to venture near it...and to be honest no other cat wants to go near her anyway!

Feliway has made to major difference to her reaction with the others. It will most likely be ok when all are spayed and neutered, I imagine!

If any of you have experienced the same with your mum cats, please let me know!

I always have the kittens adopted out by 3 months, and the mom spayed..so don't have this experience. But I'm guessing it is just her realizing she cannot be caring for the older babies and the new little ones, too. Maybe you can give her a separate room, where she can get away from them. She will need that when she delivers anyhow!

I cannot answer the question as to if shes doing this because she is pregnant again. But when my Mother cat had her babies, she was what I call a pretty strict mom. She let them know when she wanted to be bothered with them and when she didnt. And they learned. Thats her and her kids in my signature below and until this day, she will growl and hiss when she doesnt want to be bothered and then when she does, she will groom and bathe everyone of them.

If this has been dealt with already then sorry, but why is the mom pregnant again if she just had kittens 3 months ago? You should consider having her spayed now because two litters so close together can be really dangerous. How did this happen?
