The Animal Cruelty Task Force of Southern Arizona has won the Pet Protector Award Grand Prize. This award comes from the ASPCA and Friskies.

The award was a check for $5,000 and two pallets of Friskies pet food.

This award recognizes outstanding anti-animal-cruelty programs by an animal welfare investigation agency, animal control officers, police agencies and others.

The task force has 42 member organizations, including all major law enforcement agencies in So. AZ. It was founded in Dec. 1999, in response to the changing of state law that elevated animal cruelty to a felony.

The competition covered all 50 states and numerous organizations. For such a young (3-year-old) organization to win the top prize, nationally, is great.
