Spots, who is due anytime has been keeping to herself and pretty much just sleeping. Yesterday she began digging in a sleeping bag that is on the floor waiting to be washed. Then last night she got up in our bed and slept with us the whole night! This morning she was sleeping right next to me, all stretched out and purring like crazy so I was all excited thinking that 'this may be the start of something'
After awhile she got out of the bed, and seems just like she has been for the past few weeks, back in her old plastic chair.

Don't worry she may be in labor. Purring can also be a sign of pain as well, which when you are waiting on labor is a good thing hon. Just keep patience up b/c it IS coming so soon I just know it! My baby went into labor sitting right next to me while I worked 6 HOURS! She said nothing and she still had her kittens so just keep an eye on her. She sounds close.

That's what I thought, that purring happens when they are in pain. But I rested my hand on her and felt no contractions. She DID let me rub/scratch her shoulders and neck though.
Then she got down and has been back in her chair, or laying in the middle of the floor like she has been for weeks. She is eating and drinking normally.
I do have a question...how warm should the ROOM that the mom/kittens will be in, be? Our cooler is on and there is not a room where we can close off the vents. I have treid and it is a rental so we cannot 'alter' the place in any way. It has been so hot and it rains every afternoon so it is quite damp feeling even inside....

I am going to tack something over the vent. I even tried one of those magnetic vent covers but it doesn't work too well, I think there may be too many coats of paint on the vent and it started to slip a bit. So I will have that up AND then cover it with a small folded towel or something. I will also cover half of the crate with a blanket.
It is not so much that it is COLL or cold, it is the moving air MAKES it feel cool. I plan on shutting it off when she actually delivers, but we cannot keep it off for days.

And yet another question....
is it really important to have a scale to weigh the kittens?

yeah because incase one of the kittens are sick and you can't tell right away by just looking, a decrease in weight would probably be one of the first symptoms and you could catch an illness early.
