Hi all! Back after being so busy with the kittens and a spell of ill health...better now though!

I've posted an update on the kittens on this thread...they are coming up to their 3 month birthday !

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94243

They are the apples of my eye...so adorable....all 5 insist on sleeping on my bed with me and get on great with each other!

However, I have some not so good news to report...when I was in hospital, my neighbours somehow managed to let their mum Tinkerbelle escape from the house and she is pregnant again! I did have her scheduled to be spayed but we (the vet and I) were waiting for the babies to stop weaning from their mum (this was at 10 weeks) and then I went into hospital. So a non spayed Tinkerbelle = a new set of babies. The vet has yet to confirm this...but as she was seen by the neighbours with a male or two prior to screamining to get out the house...she must be pregnant. Plus she is not in heat now...

I have hope that I will be able to find homes as when I was in hospital, I arranged for the cats to be collected and put into a local cattery for the few days when no one was around to look after them. The cattery owner said that he could have sold them 5 times over to people dropping their cats off who were asking if the kittens were for sale.

Well with more babies on the way...Im sure you'll see me in the forum getting your advice. And by hell or high water, Tinkerbelle WILL be neutered after these babies are born.

Glad the kits are doing so well. Is there a reason you can't just spay Momma now? And remember, the kittens are old enough to be speutered now, so time to start getting them in for their surgeries. My 13 and 15 week old fosters get neutered next week!

I'm seeing the vet again on Tuesday...according to my calculations..Tinkerbelle may be 4 weeks pregnant... if the vet can spay at this late stage, its an option I have to consider. Of course I have to do what is best for Tinkerbelle...but everyone has their own opinion on this and aborting the kittens by spaying mum cat its something that just doesn't sit right with me if I'm honest. If I'm being selfish..I'm sorry. Maybe some of you can understand?

Thanks for mentioning about neutering/spaying the kittens... I think its time too! The boys seem to be getting a bit frisky in their play sessions. I told the vet this on the phone and he said not to worry, that at this age they were not 'fully developed quite yet' and that its natural that they show a little this kind of behaviour in play time. I have nevertheless booked the 3 boys to be neutered soon. The 2 girls will be done next pay cheque.

I can understand...but one of the concerns with regards to a cat becoming pregnant again so soon after giving birth is that the second litter will not be as healthy as the first litter due to the mom not having had sufficient time to build up nutrients. It is something you need to discuss with your vet when discussing your options.

Thanks for pointing that out Katie...I didn't think of that. Tinkerbelle is eating like crazy at the moment. She didn't start eating like this last pregnancy until a good half way through. Poor Tinks...

I thought she had just recently gotten out. I can see that the decision would be harder if she is 4 weeks along. I just get concerned with multiple litters, like Katie said, it is hard on them. My only foster Mom who lost over half of her kittens had 3 litters in 6 months. She was a good Mom, but I just think she didn't have anything left to give!

Hopefully your vet can help you make the best decision for your kitty.

That's too bad about Tinkerbelle...hopefully you'll come to some type of solution with the vet. We know you had every intention of having her spayed from the get-go after the first litter...life happens.

And your other babies are WONDERFUL!!!! How big and beautiful they're getting!!!! They're ready to be fixed themselves!
