Once again, today has been hot and humid. That's been the weather almost non-stop for weeks now and I hate it. I have no air conditioning and my apartment always ends up being warmer than the outside.
The nights aren't cool enough to cool down the apartment anymore.

My apartment is a mess. I did some cleaning up, but I ended up covered in sweat and I didn't want to continue.

I barely did any school work too.

Now I'm trying to get some done tonight, but it's still really hot, and to make it worst, the nearby old age center is having a party.

Now you'd think that a party of old people would be pretty quiet, but they're BLASTING that stupid French Canadian crooner music from the 50s (or at least it sounds that old) and it's all I can hear if I open the windows. Actually, I can still hear it with my windows closed.

Somebody shoot me! (or somebody buy me an air conditioner!!
)

(at least there's some hope that these old people will go to sleep fairly early, right?
)

Awww.... do you want to come to Ohio? You can sit in a quiet apartment, in the air conditioning, and I'll make you cookies!

Have you tried Craig's List? You might be able to get a window air conditioner for a decent price!

I wish I could

No luck with the air conditioning either. The very few people who are trying to SELL an air conditioner right now are selling them for almost the same price as new.

If they don't, though, call the cops, then go down there and takes pics of the cops breaking the party up, and post them on TCS!

Well I don't have A/C in my house. What I do is keep the blinds shut on the east side of the house in the morning and the west side in the afternoon. We have a 4 level house-the dehumidier is running in the basement, a fan at the top of the steps blowing the air up. An oscillating fan in the living room on a long extension cord in case I have to move to kitchen. The ceiling fan in house bedroom and a small fan in my craft/computer room that sits on the window ledge. When the sun does down I open the windows and keep them open until morning. Right now this room is probably 85 degrees. The living room was 84 and the family room is 80. They will all cool down about 7-9 degrees overnite. I know the weather is going to get warmer Mon and Tues though so the house might stay closed up. I also take a cool shower (about 3 minutes) 2-3 times/day. I have a box fan blowing on us at night -its not too terrible. We can't use an a/c in our casement windows. You should look for a dehumidifier as that is basically what a A/C unit is.
I try not to use the oven as it seems to retain the heat. I did boil a couple doz ears of corn today-didn't get too sweaty. Try to get cleaning done early in the am.

Yep, I hear ya! We do what Gail does - we've got 6 fans going all the time throughout the apartment. Blinds drawn during the day, windows open all night.

We used to live in a 3 unit block with an elderly neighbour. Man, she had that tv BLARING all day 'cos she was stone deaf! We could hear it 2 units away. She always managed to hear us when we passed by though, and she'd come out and ask us to buy her smokes. She was dying of lung cancer and could barely talk, yet we'd feel so bad saying no, that we often did buy her some cigarettes.

Unfortunately, I don't have a ceiling fan. Only one fan.

Right now it's nice... I have the fan in the patio door and the fresh air is going through my apartment. But I don't want to keep the patio door open once I go to bed.

A dehumidifier would be great, but I can't afford one (they're even more expensive than some air conditoners)

I think I am doomed to sweat
