What kind of spider is this??

It is the sise of my palm (legs included) with a big body, and was just sitting on the wall when I went to check on the kitten. I think these things are plotting to carry us off this year. It was brown with black striped legs and black stripes along its body.

It looks bigger than a wolf spider, but, hey I don't know. We have spiders like that here too. I always called em brown spiders, or water spiders.....See how technical I am lol

It would be helpful to know where you are in trying to figure out what kind of spider it is. Some spiders that look like that are only in certain areas.

Regardless, YEeeeek! I would be jumping up and down shaking my hands going ew ew ew ew ew ew ew!

Meh, I'd have caught it and studied it awhile.

Can't really tell from the photo, it does look like a wolf spider, but I'm more inclined to think it is a huntsman.
Wolf spiders are for the most part, terrestrial, while huntsman are known climbers.

I am in KY, but DixieDarlin solved it. It is a wolf spider (I've seen a few scurrying around the front door, but this is the first one which has popped up indoors.

I know they are harmless but when I see them, I will literally SCREAM and start to cry! I don't care how big or little a spider is, I don't want ANYTHING to do with them.

Once one got into my bedroom and before Dh could kill it it got into my dresser and hid... I stayed at my mom's until he found it and rid of it... 2 days later!

BTW, i am originally from KY...

Definately not a huntsman. The body and legs look way too different (googled also.

I love researching and studying animals/insects and usually have no fear of bugs, but looking up to see a huge spider sitting on my wall startled me (as I didn't know if it was harmless or not).

I also vote wolf spider. It looks like the one I killed in my bathroom a while back (maced 'em with hairspray and then, when he fell on the floor, slammed the scale on top of him!
)

A spider as big as your palm????
What do you feed spiders in your neck of the woods to get them that big!

This is a pretty cool site, is it what you looked at?
http://www.uky.edu/Ag/CritterFiles/c...spiderfile.htm

It would be great for future reference too, next time you see one! It looks like the Carolina Wolf Spider, doesn't it? Or the Fishing Spider, they're both big enough and look very similar. (It even says they're difficult to distinguish), but the fishing spider would be more likely to be on your wall as opposed to on your floor.

He's more scared of them than I am!
Thankfully he will kill roaches for me tho.

OMG I just moved to a new development with a lot of empty lots around. I've never seen so many spiders! Half the time I'm afraid to open my front door
