Sometime in late winter...I am going to be an Aunt for the first time!!! I'm so excited! I knew it was in the works sometime soon, but now it's happening!

My mom and I were talking last night and we were like "Do we have to wiat to start buying toys??
"

I think I'm going to get a couple of kiddy CDs, like Peter,Paul,&Mary's greatest hits and of course Fred Penner's Place (if you remember that thread) and maybe some Baby Einstein stuff as baby shower gifts.

Any other ideas? If I had more money I'd get a Lowe's or Home Depot gift card for redoing the bedroom, but
it would only be for like 20$ and wouldn't help much.

I'm SOOOOOO EXCITED!

Hey congradulations!! I am going to be an aunt for the first time too but in November. I am excited too except that my sister (my younger sister!) lives in Arizona so I won't see the kid often. She is having a boy and naming it Joshua Ray. Do you know the sex of the baby yet?

My mom and I have been buying Kidsongs. They have Animals, Dogs, Trucks... My little sister had the Circus one when she was little and it annoyed the crap out of me but the kids like them.

hey a 20 dollar card will go a long way, believe me. It isn't too early to start buying toys, but, it will be a while before he/she/ will play w/ it. CONGRATS!

Best place i've ever found for baby clothes is Goodwill. Some people might worry that others wouldn't want things from there- but it's awesome!!! I bought my niece over $1000 worth of baby clothes for her little girls for around $300. The infant clothes are usually .99 and under. The cool thing is, most of the baby clothes there have only been worn a few times because babies grow so quickly....also, i found a ton of them that were brand new and still had the tags on them! They have a ton of variety too and are forever getting in new shipments. So definitely check out your local Goodwill!
Also, in Memphis, we have a program called "The Happy Birthday Baby Book"- it's a coupon book with hundreds of dollars of coupons in it- from everything from formula to diapers and wipes! You can order it as soon as you find out your pregnant, and Anyone can order it for free. I would check in your state to see if you have anything like that to sign your sister up for! The savings are awesome! Ohhhh, and don't forget to get her a mesh teether- you can put in bits of banana, fruits, carrots...etc- it's really neat- and it prevents choking once the baby starts to sample solid foods! Target and Wal-mart sell them (under $5 for 2) - they're one of the best products i've found out there. Also, the Bordeux Butt Paste works really well for diaper rashes! Desatin Creamy is also really nice- you can find that at Target and Wal-Mart too! Also, don't worry about getting expensive wipes- it's better to go to some places like Sam's club or Costco and get the less expensive ones in bulk- they last forever and they have the same identical ingredients in them as the more expensive wipes do! Ewww, and if ya'll are gonna splurge, definitely get her a Pack-N-Play!!! They can serve as a bassinet, changing station, play pen, and infant bed, they also have storage, built in sounds and vibrations to sooth the infant, and a mobile- they can be found anywhere from $85- upward!!! They also have wheels on them so that the momma can move it from room to room which will come in handy when the baby arrives! Those are in my opinion one of the best new baby products on the market!!!! I'm so excited for you and your family! Also, if you buy any pacificers- make sure you check the stage on them- they have them for different stages as the babies teeth and gums develop- the first stage is 0-3 months i believe. There are some new ones out on the market that won't harm the babies gums and can acutally help gum development...also, be sure to get the clips for them as well- one end attaches to the pacifier and one end attatches to the baby's top..they can also be used to hold teething toys in place as well- stock up on those, they are wonderufl! Congradulations- you're going to be a great aunt!!!! I have 8 nieces and nephews and 2 great nieces- being an aunt is one of the best gifts you could ever be given in life!!!
Have fun shopping!

-oh and the little einstein products are definitely a great idea!!! They really help as far as motor skills and mental development go! They have a huge line of things from cd's to toys- i've found that the developmental toys are always a favorite among babies. Also, they help with hand-eye cordination and can of great use when the baby starts tummy time!

For one that is going to be an auntie for the 15th time sometime in October, here's what I've done in the past: offered to broze the baby shoes, offered a day off to the soon to be mom sometime after the baby is over 3 months (that's the breaking point for new mom's so I've found). I'm at work right now, so I'll post more when I get home.

Congrats sweetie!

Congrats... I have a niece on the way too, due in November with my nephew nearly 4, where has time gone, that makes me feel old!
I couldn't even start to name all the stuff we bought for him when we found out my sister was pregnant, but she did love the coupon books, the IOU babysitting night coupons and diapers

Wow, thank you all for the congrats!
I would love to offer babysitting, but I'll be a few hundred miles away... once the kid/s get older I'm going to take them for weekends/vacations but it'll be hard to just pop over and watch them. I could come spend the weekend and give them "date night" I guess. I'd love to be closer and help watch them on a regular basis though.

Jen, it's only a couple months now (they were surprised to be able to hear a heartbeat yesterday at the doctor!) so we don't know if it's a boy or a girl. I'm sure gonna keep you all updated though. And I remember Kidsongs from my friends suprise baby brother, and how much I hated them too!

Lookingglass- Bronzing baby shoes is a great idea! Maybe my mom and I could do that together! How much does it cost? And would it be ridiculous to do her cat's baby collar too?

Starryeyedtiger--
Wow! Thank you for all the ideas! I love Goodwill too, I'm sure my sis and I will be going on shopping excursions together. Right now she's trying to find pants that fit! She's very thin and small, so she's showing already, and suddenly her pants don't fit! I'm totally going to have to check for a coupon packet. I know her city sent her one when we moved in just as new neighbors, maybe they have one for new mommies too! If they don't I'm gonna have to make a basket or something. I've never heard of mesh teethers, I'll put those in the basket. I've also heard of using frozen waffles?
That Pack'n'play sounds nice too! I'll have to see if it's in budget.

Oh, and the nuknuk will be my first present. I had a nuky from when I was born until the day before I went to preschool and my mom ripped it out of my mouth and stuck it in a drawer (you couldn't have nukys in preschool). That's good advice about the stages, I never would've known!

I know it'll be my responsibility for the language-learning type stuff, me being the resident linguist and all. I have some good ideas for that too, especially once the kid starts reading in a couple years.

I just get more and more excited every day!

This is great I love being an Aunt I was an Aunt for the Seventh time last month. There is a real cool gift to give that I gave my sis-in law: it's from babygiftidea.com it is a doll the same size as the baby when it's born same length and boy or girl so u can see how big or small your baby was when it was born u can buy the actual doll after it's born or give a gift certificate for them to get the doll themselves after.
