I was getting a quote for renter's insurance today, and they asked if I had any animals. After I said yes he asked if they were vicious. I said, no. He then asked if they were trained attack animals. I honestly just laughed. He said "Well the call is being recorded so I need a yes or no answer."

They probably wanted to know if they would cause any damage....but I have never heard of that questions.... you should of said "Yes, my kitties are with the CIA and I am training them at my house"

There's your sign! (blue collar tour reference)

They are required by law to ask that, as they cannot insure you for certain things if you have dogs like pit bulls. State by state the law varies, as does the list of "dangerous" animals.

Better yet the classic "I could tell you but I would have to kill you!"

Oh I know he was required to ask, it's just that he took the question so seriously. He didn't even laugh when he asked it.

Yeah if I had to ask that question I would probably start off by saying " I know this may sound weird, but I am required to ask you....."

That's funny ... My boyfriend got us renter's insurance here in SW Ontario, and I don't think they asked that one at all! (Not that my cats could be called "vicious" by any stretch of the imagination, but it would've been interesting ...) The insurance company just wanted to know the age of our building, what kind of furnace we had, stuff like that. I guess the rules are different here?

I almost said, unless you are a bug or mouse then no they aren't trained to attack anything, but I let it go.

Well, I wouldn't classify TTP&B as dangerous, but Tiggy gets pretty good gas at times!

They asked me that as well. They said "Do you have any animals?" Yes. "What kind?" A cat. "Has she ever attacked anybody?" No!!!

It is a silly question.

Now that's dangerous!!!

Also, if a child or someone gets bit by your animal, the person can sue you/your renters/homeowners ins. So they may give you a higher rate.

We have the exact same questions on our application too. They just need to know for liability reasons. If you did have animal that bit someone. then they would most likely not insure you. Its just a liability thing, not about damaging the home at all.

I had a landlord ask me if I had pets, I said yes. Then he said are they vicious... I said well The fish is a siamese fighting fish but as long as you don't mess with him he's fine.

What is Scratch's full name? It includes "destroyer of the universe" or something like that?

Be glad he didn't ask their names!
