My 17 y/o tuxedo cat Sophie has always been a milk drinker. My 2 10-week old kittens can't handle cow's milk, so I'm giving them KMR, which they absolutely love. (the vet told me they don't need it anymore, but they're crazy about it; besides, I've still got half a can of mix left to use) Sophie turns her nose up at it. I've tried putting a dish of milk on the table for her, where the kittens can't reach it, but she's such a creature of habit she won't even consider drinking it there. She also has arthritis & can't get up there & back down again without help.
Sophie is also hyperT; she had blood work done last week & two numbers were so goofy that the vet has taken more blood for the test to be re-done. Her potassium levels read 3-4x normal, and her calcium was only 25% of what it should be. The vet said if those numbers were correct that she'd be dead! Well! That makes me wonder if she might have a calcium deficiency & that's why she's been such a milk drinker all her life. The new test results should be back late today, so we'll see just how goofy they actually were.
My big question (after all that) is this: does anyone have any ideas on something I could safely give both Sophie & the kittens? I hate to deprive Sophie of milk after all these years when it's something she likes so much, but I don't need a couple of kittens with diarrhea, either.

I like Cat-Sip. It's lowfat milk, lactase enzyme, and taurine. My kitten loves it! My older cats won't touch it, though. Costs about 99 cents a box (like a juice drink box thing) at Petsmart.
The Whisaks Cat Milk has a bunch of extra ingredients and things like corn syrup solids and junk your cat doesn't need.

Can you take some extra time with Sophie when you put her milk on the table, such as set her up there and pet and talk to her whilie she drinks her milk to acclimate her to the new special area for her special treat?
If it can help her adjust, then great. Also, as the kittens get bigger you will probably have to be there to intervene so they don't just jump up and take her milk. Kittens being kittens and all.

CatSip sounds like something I might need to try. Next time I get to my nearest Petsmart (an hour and a half away) I'll pick some up.
I've tried sitting with Sophie while she's on the table & loving her up, but she just isn't interested in being there, even if there's milk involved.
As I said in my first post, the kitten love the KMR and will actually beg for it. They are 10 weeks old today. Is there any harm in letting them have it as they get older? It's almost like a special treat for them.

It won't hurt them, but I wouldn't let them have much, or I'd really thin it out with water, because they'd probably get fat!
