Princess and Prince for some reason always want my attention when I am on the computer
I am not on the computer ofte but if they are awake and I am on the computer they jump on my desk and walk infront of my monitor and when I am typing they try and walk on my keyboard
I usually pick them up show then love and put them on the floor but they always hop back up. Does any one elses cats do that?? They seem to love the keyboard a lot

Libby does the exact same thing. The only time really so far (we've only had her a few weeks) that she'll come and show interest and jump in my lap is when i'm on the computer! Then she wants to walk on the keybaord, and the desk. This all usually leads up to one thing... she sees the cursor on the screen and wants to try and catch it! She does the same with my husbands laptop.

It's really the only place she'll sleep on me so far too. She spends a good part of the daytime asleep in my lap while I'm on the computer. If I try anywhere else though, she doesn't want to know.

I think it must be something about computers and cats! Her latest trick is to get on top of my PC (it's on the bottom shelf of the desk) and stick her head through the back of the slide out part for the keyboard and look at me.

This is the reason why they keep doing it!
You are reinforcing their behaviour to come up by giving them love - so they associate jumping on the keyboard and standing in front of the monitor as a way of getting lovings!

My cats just don't like me paying attention and concentrating on anything but them!

When I'm working in my studio and they jump up, I will put them on the floor without saying anything and repeat if necessary and they will leave me be.

Oliver's guilty too! He's even accidentally IMed people on my buddy list with jibberish and I'll come back to the computer (I stay signed on all day) to see IMs to random people and a message back from them like "what the heck?!" and I have to explain that my cat tried to talk to them, haha.... with my desktop though, the keyboard has its own shelf that slides in and out under the desk, so there he's allowed to lounge on the desk part while I'm working - that way he gets love, attention and the warmth of the desk lamp and I can still get work accomplished (kinda, haha, I always break from playtime)... occasionally he'll chase the cursor too, but his FAVORITE thing is attacking printing documents! It's to the point where if I'm printing something that needs to be handed in, I have to hold on to him and then print something fun just for him, like a sign that says "Mama loves her Oliver" just so he can attack it, haha

Bit is the same way. As soon as the printer is turned on he will sit next to it and cry until a piece of paper comes out. Then he goes into full on kitty attack mode. We have to print two copies of everything because of this.

I have the same thing with Sushi. She just discovered the cursor, and likes to follow it. She also steps all over the keys. Cuddles use to be the same way, she even was able to open the picture folder and some how find her folder of pics. But now she just sits on the back of the chair and watches. Stormy will rub up against the chair, and use her front and do this patty thing on my bum, and do little meows for attention. Of course I give attention to all of them when they want attention.

Pouncer LOVES (or HATES) the cursor. She'll climb on top of the monitor and hang her head over the edge and watch the cursor. When it comes close to her, she'll swat at it! So cute!

Train your cats to avoid your keyboard: it makes life much easier. My cats used to step all over mine, and it just didn't work for me. You have one thing going for you; keyboards aren't all that fascinating for cats, so it really isn't hard to convince them to stay away. I just said "No" and moved my cats from my keyboard whenever they stepped on it. I put my hand as a guard around the keyboard, and petted and gave them love whenever they WEREN'T on the keyboard.

The printer will always be endlessly fascinating, though, I think. I don't let them ruin any of my printing; I simply watch my printing (and them) and tell them "No" if they start to bat at the paper coming out of the printer. They seem to be quite content to just watch the printer and attack other things.

My guys aren't really interested in the keyboard or the monitor, but they're both convinced that the printer must die! (We just got a new printer, replacing one that they've never seen function, so the fact that this loud piece of equipment shoots out paper is pretty fascinating to them.) It's just as well that they're not terribly into the computer, because it's new and my boyfriend is a little over-protective; I think he'd have a heart attack if they so much as looked at it the wrong way! Fortunately, the cats have concluded that the computer, lacking opposable thumbs and therefore unable to feed them, is quite possibly the least interesting thing in the living room. Our living room is too full of cat toys (and things the cats have DECIDED are cat toys) for them to play with OUR toy.

It almost makes me wish I had a printer! Although i'm sure it would be a pain in the end if she got at the paper.

I should really try to stop her from coming around the desk (as sometimes she gets under it and then behind all the wires :| ) but she's too cute. She lays on her back in my lap and tries to catch my arms when i'm typing (she's doing it now as I type this!)

She's also decided I must share the computer chair. She either sits on the back of it and watches, or gets behind me and cleans/sleeps/tries to jump up my back and catch my hair.

My previous keyboard died after having a cat sleep on it. Well, I wouldn't let him sleep in the computer chair!

Ari likes to sit on the monitor and will take whatever measures to walk across the keyboard to get to it. The printer? He has been known to stick his paw into the paper feed to get that noisy monster in that gray box!

Here Ari helps me play solitaire.

Haha, adorable picture! I'm glad my moniters are flatscreen, so my 15 pound monster can't get on top of them! He is notorious for stealing my computer chair though... he knows when I'm headed out for class or certain meetings and I'm not out the door 2 seconds before he hops in the chair and curls up (sometime's I'll hafta run back in the apartment cuz I forgot something, so I catch him in the act, haha).... he's also known for laying his head on my mouse while lounging on the desk - I tell him that's the one mouse he's not allowed to play with, but he doesnt care, haha... he's also snapped my printer tray off a few times (the part that catches the printed document) cuz he'll perch on top of the printer and try to pounce when it comes out... I try to catch and stop him, but I've missed a few times, luckily it doesnt break and I can put it back on...

Here are a few pics.... this was when he was still living secretly in my dorm room

I know I have more pics of him at the computer but they're not online and stored on my desktop which is at my apartment and I'm at my parents'....

I've had Blotsy for just over a week. The second day that we had him, I was working on my final paper for a summer school course (5 pages) on my laptop. I was on the 4th page and had saved at the end of page 2. I got up to answer the phone, and when I came back, the paper was gone and Blotsy was asleep on the keyboard. Needless to say, I have learned a VERY valuable lesson on pushing the save button! But at least it was just about the cutest thing in the world, so I couldn't get too mad

Yeah.. Tigger and Nemal both enjoy the computer and printer. Even Milo who could care less about the computer enjoys the printer. Nermal and Tigger both love the cursor and like others, can't find the best way to get it. They try from the front, the back, the top, the sides, and nothing works. I managed to break Tiggers habit of trying to eat my headphones but Nermal still hasn't got that figured out. The printer is a whole new realm of interesting. I have a laser that's always on and because it's a laser, it shifts the toner cartridge to keep it from settling. Everytime it does this and there's a cat around, they're standing on it waiting for the paper. One of them even figured out how to press the print button on the top which in my case, prints a test page. After about 80 test pages I had to make a cover for the button so she'd stop wasting my paper.
