Hi!

I was wondering, have we ever had, or considered having a swap? Does anyone here know what they are? They have scrapbook swaps all the time o the scrapbooking forum I am on.

I think it would be a lot of fun to have a swap for the people that are interested!

Let me know if you know what they are, if you are interested, if there has ever been one, etc.

(the secrete santa thread got me thinking about this. They are similar, but swaps happen all year round)

Sure, bail out now that you got us all excited.

It sounds interesting... want to know more!

Good luck at your interview.

I know on the auction site I am at, they do swaps. It's usually whatever you can fit in a shoebox, and it has a theme. Colors, cat stuff(more than likely for us
) , thing's of that nature. Then, whoever is in charge picks names and I think 2 people are paired off, you send them yours, and they send theirs, or simply drawing names out of a hat, you are told who to send to, and wham, it's a swap. Just gotta pay the shipping, but it's a lot of fun!
You can get some really cool stuff sometimes.

Edited to add: I think this would be a very cute idea.

Yes yes, this is exactly what a swap is!

You want to make sure the things you buy, or regift, are things YOU would want to recieve as well and are of a high quality. I don't mean EXPENCIVE! But we are not talking random Happy Meal toys and Bubble Gum machine jewlery. Things that are fun and useful, like you could get at the dollar store, or wall mart, or thrift stores. Cute stuff.

Ours could be cat themed, or it could be cat and flower themed, then cat and star themed! We could do dual themes so we don't get catted out.

I will try to find some pictures of swaps on the interent, and some more stuff.

I am back now and here all day.

This looks like a cool site we could use to facilitate the swap.

We could do one a month? Say a differnt cat theme a month?

SHould we have a minimum spending amount, that way they end up being equal? Say $10? If you want to spend more you can, but as long as it's $10 that would be great. A lot of swaps do this.

Umm, we could have

Cat Toy Swap
Cat Statinary Swap
Cat Trinket Swap
Black Cat Swap

Any other ideas on how often we would do a swap? How much to spend? Themes? If we would want to use the Swap Bot or not?

What do you all think?

Sounds like a fun idea to me! $10 sounds about right...not so little that the stuff is basically useless, but not so expensive that a lot of people are excluded.

This sounds like a cool idea to me too. Once I was a part of a garage sale swap. We all picked a theme and went garage sale shopping. It of course had to be good quality and clean but it was fun to see what cool things you could find outside the regular store scene. We also had a $10 limit. Would anyone be interested in adding that twist to it?

What is the best way to get lots of people involved?

I have to say it's a nice idea, but I would be hesitant about getting packages from people I don't know through that swap-bot site. If you do it through them, then anyone can sign up for your swap, and who knows what you end up getting from some psycho...

I wouldn't want this done through TCS either. Whether you do this automatically or via a person, you end up with a big database of names and personal addresses. That is always potential for trouble... With Secret Santa we do this once a year and have a mod coordinate the thing, so I feel better about that. I don't want to task our mods with another such exchange, when we have a Secret Santa coming up too.

Again, sorry to disappoint everyone, but I prefer to keep things limited to the Secret Santa swap (it is really that essentially) at this stage.
