...by posting too prematurely. But, my husband and I quit smoking last Monday. As of today, we have officially gone one week and one day without a cigarette. I truly think the hardest part is over. I just wanted to share, we are really proud of ourselves and have tried to quit unsuccessfully many times. Please send vibes for our continued success!

Amy, you have tons and tons of good vibes coming my way for you and your hubby! After watching my beloved father die of lung cancer, I urge everyone to quit! You can do it. My mom quit cold turkey 15 years ago!

Congrats!
You've gotten this far, I know you can do it!

Now send me some of your willpower, all I've managed is to get down to two packs a week.
It doesn't seem like much, but considering it used to be two packs a day, I'm quite proud.

Yay! Congrats!!!

It's true, that hardest part is over for you, now all you have to remember is to just say NO! to those cravings. Never again take "just one drag." That first puff is what'll get you started all over again.

I quit on September 25, 2003, and I'm coming up on my 3 year quit anniversary. It can be done! I'm so happy for you, hang in there, and if you ever want to vent about it, feel free to PM me!!!

Woo-hoo!! Congrats again!!!

That is wonderful! My dad quit on July 4th and is really having a terrible time with it. My mom on the other hand quit Jan 1 and hardly struggled at all. She just told herself she would never pick another one up! Keep it up!! make yourselves proud!!

You should be proud.........a little at a time if that's what it takes.....everyone is different..........keep cutting back and before you know it it will be 1 pack a week, a couple of cigs a day....one a day, and VOILA!!!

Thanks for the overwhelming response. I really appreciate the vibes!

Now that I'm smoke-free for 8 days, I feel so much better. Food tastes different, I don't wake up with a sore throat. For my husband and I, the realization just hit us that, if we kept going like this, we might not see our kids graduate from high school. Never again will I have to sneak outside and smoke, I won't take 6 months to recover from a cold, etc...

Last night my husband and I were thinking about why we got started smoking in the first place. Basically, it was just because the people around us were smoking. I'll never forget the first pack I bought for myself. I smoked two in a row and was bed-ridden for 3 hours, I felt so ill. Its amazing that anyone ever starts smoking!
