I remember long time ago, a friend told me she was worry because her cat was on antibiotics for a very long time. I didnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t ask why she was worry about the antibiotic. We just got back from the vet and Andy was given Zenequin for 4 more days, for a Brown Recluse Spider bite. He was given Zenequin for 21 days for a urinary infection and before he was done with those, a spider bit him. So he has been on the antibiotic for 27 days today. Whatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s so bad about taking antibiotics for a long time?

It also kills the good bacteria in the digestive tract so it is pretty common for cats to develop digestive problems while on antibiotics. You can get probiotics which are just colonies of good bacteria to give them. I don't know how much good they do while still taking the antibiotic because the antibiotic will still be doing it's job of killing bacteria. After finishing the antibiotic they can speed up the process of repopulating the digestive tract.

In the case of an antibiotic called Baytril, the issue is that with very long term use there is a risk of blindness (and no, this isn't anecdotal..my vet and I have commented about it each time one of my cats was about to go on this medication).

Thank you for the comments.
I think heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s doing well because heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s using his toilet every morning.
