Thank you...I will try to see if I can find the book here, so you don't have to search for it.

Yay! Congrats on the beginning of an amazing journey! I was 25 when I had my first and 28 with my 2nd. Now she is starting kindergarten and he's starting preschool! Unreal!

I have to be the dissenting voice on the What to Expect Book. I hated it. I think it's very alarmist and condescending, especially if you consider doing things a bit outside of the mainstream.

My favorite books are The Pregnancy Book, The Birth Book, and The Baby Book by Dr. William Sears. Here's his website:
www.AskDrSears.com.
My copy of The Baby Book is like our bible around here! It's great!

And, if you are a website and online bulletin board person, check out:
http://www.mothering.com/discussions/
and
www.AmityMama.com

Just curious - what is your husband's tradition that would expect a baby sooner? Is this religious or cultural or what?

Good luck!

He is Lebanese and we are Greek Catholic....it is common and usually expected to have a baby within 1 or so after marriage.

Alaynna I just saw this thread and I'm so excited for you and Jason. In the little time I've been on the site its obvious what a kind heart you have and what a strong relationship you have with your husband. Good luck, and the two of you are going to be wonderful parents!

Cool! I got some pressure when I was first married for 3 years without getting pregnant (intentionally). We were Roman Catholic and no one could figure it out. They assumed we were having trouble getting pregnant. Well, a birth control pill does cause some trouble with that!

My first husband died when our daughter was 5 months old. My second husband is a former Roman Catholic priest. Though we are no longer Catholic, we got down to business and were pregnant within 3 months of the wedding!

Anyway - don't worry if you don't get pregnant right away. Do you have the book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility? It's SO helpful!

I am sorry to hear about your first husband

You mentioned birth control....well his family and our religion doesn't believe in birth control (That is something I don't agree with) and everyone in his family have 5 or more children each. His dad is the deacon of our church so he is VERY religious. They will be very happy once we do get pregnant, but we are not telling anyone that we are trying because we want to completely surprise them. The good thing is that I have been off of the pill for over a year (since I had a bad reaction) and we have only been using a condom...so at least I won't have any delay based on the bill.

Yes - same here about the birth control. I mean, I was on it and my family either didn't know or didn't approve. That was OK with me, though.

When you say it's something you don't agree with - do you mean you don't agree with the use of BC or with their disagreement with it? Oh, I guess you must mean their reaction since I see that you were on the pill and using condoms.

Either way - I bet your families will be thrilled! Will this be a first grandchild? Emma (my oldest) was the first on both sides. It was very exciting!

I meant that I don't agree with their reaction...if that makes since
....Basically, I mean I have no problem with birth control of any kind....

Yes this would be their first grandchild on his side and my side

Funny that you mention that...I did ask Monkey
I said "Monkey, would you like to have a baby around here" she gave me a "yes" meow

Congratulations! You can come drink the water around here. My friends always seem to be having babies (I drink juice! LOL) and I'm actually having a shower on the 12th!

Good luck with your decision and your timing. I decided to 'try' in September thinking I wouldn't actually conceive until December or January the coming year...Well, I ended up getting pregnant with Marie the first week of trying!! Defintitely a success....and she's now almost 14 months old. I can't imagine life without her, having a child adds a whole new wonder/experience to life.
