We Built a Cat Tree

This is the first step in making our extra bedroom a cat room. I'm planing new window treatments and might repaint the walls into a more "beige" look. This little slide show video shows how we put it together.

Woahhhh!!!! That is so cool!!! The cat tree is amazing, and the video is equally impressive! I still don't think I could do something that impressive - you're one clever bloke!

One thought I had though... the rope loops at the top of the cat tree - is there any chance a kitty could get their head stuck in there and strangled? I only ask because a kitten at our shelter manage to strangle itself to death in its foster home just recently on a seemingly safe cat toy, and now I'm super paranoid about that sort of thing!

Oh and I love the final picture - that's quite the kitty smile

So cute!!! I love your "pick up truck".

Can you post the specs of what you did?

Is that Jack in the last picture?

I love the last image of whichever kitty he or she is... the one where he or she is on top and smiling with his eyes closed. He looks very proud.

They really don't get under there, but since we're out all day, it can't hurt to tie up the loops a little smaller. Thanks for the suggestion!

It's funny, Chloe seems to have the top perch, and that is her in the last photo.

Sorry, I tend to build with a general plan in mind, but once we start cutting, things deviate quickly. I don't really have specs per se, but I can tell you that the plywood is 1/2 inch, nothing high quality since it will be covered anyway. The carpet is remnants, so the cost was minimal. I did buy a few new tools (who could resist the excuse... ) and highly recommend a power stapler for anyone considering trying something like this. Not counting the tools, the materials cost was less than $150.

Thanks for the comments on the video. I just returned from vacation in San Francisco and finished up that video. I've sat through enough of others vacation videos, so let me try mine out on my cat buddies.

Do you think its too long (5 min)? do I need a voice over or subtitles to help tell the story? any comments are welcome. BTW, check out the cool cat gift shop in the middle of the video...we spent way too much there!
