My kitten of 14 weeks gets right in my face in the morning.... pushes my hair out of his way... chews my left ear, then procedes to knead my neck and shoulders.....and this gones on til I move him... could be 1 min, could be 40 min !!!!

I understand the purring, and chewing, but whats the kneading about.... LOL

It's a nesting thing - they do it to their MomCat to stimulate the milk glands while nursing. They just do it to us for comfort and affection.

They all do it, it's a sweet (if sometimes uncomfortable!) gesture.

let me add the kneading DOES NOT bother me in any way...I love it, and welcome it... he actually looks funny when doing it.. he closes his eyes half way.. almost looks stones... and just goes at it.... the more he kneads the louder he purrs..... he definetly enjoys himself

Of course he's enjoying! He's remembering perfect happiness!

I'm glad you like it - most people find it baffling at first, and depending on where their cats do it, sometimes painful! (Two of mine act like they are convinced that milk glands - ie boobs - are for milk, and that at my size there HAS to be some in there, if they just try hard enough.

Forget 14 week kitten, I have a 14 pound 2 1/2 year old that does exactly what you describe... on and off all night!

Harley is just over a year old, 10lbs + and still does that on my legs/back every night when I use my fleece blanket! Sure makes for a nice backrub!

I've see Davidson do it to Harley in his sleep tho when their cuddling, Harley actually enjoys it!

Yup, Bijou at 16 lbs wants to suckly my neck and knead my face and neck. I have to keep his nails trimmed or I'd look like a victim from Elm Street

Rochester will do this for long stretches of time, and boobage is his favorite spot. Most of the time he does it with a sleepy faraway look on his face then lays down on me to sleep. But once in a while he will jump on me kind of in a frenzy and just stomp-knead on me in a very manic manner- like he is posessed or stomping his way out of a bad mood. He just seems driven.

Cats are weird.

Gizmo loves hair. She will groom people with long hair and massage my shouldrs and neck. Thankfully she has learnt do do that without claws. She also gets this faraway / stoned look in her face when she does it and she drools.

Bubbles only kneads my tummy like a "normal" cat. But he uses his claws with it, so it's rather uncomfortable

I have a 3 year old Calico named Athena who has done this from the moment we brought her home. We say she's dancing the two-step

Spike usually does this on my shoulder, just above my armpit. (Or sometimes slightly to the left, in boob country.) He does it when he comes to me for pets when I'm asleep, since I work at night and sleep during the day. He purrs and kneads for awhile, then settles in next to me. Even though the kneading can be slightly painful and turns my skin a little red, he loves it and his warm body purring next to me is so soothing.

My 8 week old, Sir Duke, does this every morning before I feed him and go off to work. He's too small to sleep in the bedroom right now, so I go and spend some QT with him before I leave. I lay on the couch with him and he always finds his way to my hair, where he chews, making loud slurping/smacking noises, kneads and purrs like a 600hp engine. And last we checked, he was only 1.3lbs! If I move him, he makes his way right back to my hair until I eventually get up and feed him. He also "smurgles" his bed before he naps in it.
