The problem is we don't for sure that they abandoned Rory. I strongly suspect they did, but without the evidence - Rory herself - or witnesses we don't have a case. I spoke to a woman in the rental office at their apartment complex who knew of the family, but didn't even know they had a cat. It's my understanding that they were evicted, so we don't have a forwarding address or phone number. I'm planning on going to the apartment complex sometime tomorrow to talk to some of the neighbors and see if they know anything. If Rory turns up or someone can confirm they dumped her, we'll definitely try to pursue this as an abandonment case and leave it up to the authorities to track the family down.

Sending more prayers for Rory's safe return. May she be guided to a loving soul who will give her sanctuary and assist her in finding her way back to someone in your network, so that you can personally assist her again. Bless you for not giving up easily, Eilcon

Turns out their old phone # is still good, so another local cat person, not connected with our group, is going to call the family, say she saw the listing about Rory on Petfinder and pretend she's interested in adopting her. She's hoping to get them to say what they did with Rory. Keep your figures crossed.

ohno, I just read this thread. I am so sorry Eileen, what an awful situation.

Sending lots of thoughts your way in the hope of finding Rory

Ooohhh... I so wish I had a stable living situation, so I could take those cats... they'd be perfect, too, all grown and not having to worry about awkward kittenhood mistakes...

I want to track down wherever those poor kitties are, and take them back home with me, and take care of them for as long as they live, and make sure they never have to worry about anything worse than whether they'll get salmon for dinner...

My landlord would probably have something to say about it if I showed up with three black cats. Grrr... stupid no-pets clause.

One of the local cat rescue people did call as planned and left a message about her "interest" in adopting Rory. No response. She's going to try again. I contact the apartment complex again and was told no one has seen Rory. I honestly don't know what else to do at this point except pray that she's safe.
