I recently posted about some 3 1/2 to 4 week old orphaned kittens that we...or should I say my dog.......found and now I'm caring for them.It was posted under the SOS board, but since it's not longer an urgent post, I moved it here. For those of you wanting to catch up so you'll know what I'm talking about, go to
http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93198

and that SHOULD work.
Well, the baies are thriving and getting bigger every day. They now romp and play in the garden tub with each other. The first day we found them, they just kind of laid around and wouldn't do much.Boy has that changed!!!!

Here are some new pics of them. They've hit a milestone now as they now lap kitten formula from a lid.Don't worry, I still do the bottle and syringe feedings too.Just to make sure they are getting enough food.I also soaked some kitten food in warm water until it was mushy, added some kitten formula and made it really soupy for them. They love it!!!!

No, my other fur babies haven't met them.I am keeping the kits secluded in my bathroom with the door closed.
I just adopted Corwin on Wed. so Blaze and Neela are getting use to him being here right now.I don't want to stress the kits or my other fur babies out anymore right now.
Plus, I need to call my Vet tomm. and see about getting them in to be seen.

When she went to a new foster home, they put her in a crate temporarily to let the other kittens get used to her. Once the crate door was opened, Smartie would go out into the room to play and eat. But the other kittens were not allowed in "her" crate. She would sit in there sometimes like the little princess, surrounded by her serfs! LOL! The new foster Mom said she had never seen anything like it! I did not keep track of her when she was adopted out, but I'm sure she is ruling her new forever home with a firm paw!

I'm so happy the kittens are thriving. What a miracle!

Awww...note the little poopies in the poopy-pan!!!! What a good bunch of girls and boys, using their litterbox already!

They would have roasted for sure with the heat wave we're having...thank goodness the dog discovered them. They are very sweet-looking! Give them another couple of weeks, and they'll be a handful!

The torti girl is a cutie!!! Are any of them keepers *wink*?

Awww how cute, they are so lucky you found them. And yes watch the Torti, they definatly have a princess attitude. Kirra tricked me, when i first met her she was so cuddley and sweet, now she thinks she rules the house.

here is hoping your tortie doesnt look at you like this one day

crittermom, you are doing great and the babies are looking good!

It's time to name them (even if they're just nicknames for now).

Also, pop in an empty toilet roll and a couple of plastic bottle tops to stimulate their minds.

They are looking fantastic!

Names ... do you want a theme for them? For example a rescuer I know took in a 2 week old litter who's mom had died and named them The Candy Crew, each having a name reflective of that - like Hershey, Pez, etc.

Looks like you are doing a great job with them! I would've been scared to death to take care of my 7 kitties without the help of their momcat!

They are so adorable. The tortie looks like what I imagine my Serendipity would've looked like as a kitty. Although she is maybe more of a calico/tabby...I don't know.

So you are just keeping one? Why don't you keep 3 and catch up to me? I'm going to have a half dozen cats by the time my fostering experience is over.

This is Sera, my very first stray. She started the whole "cat" thing for me. Before her, I was afraid of cats and thought I'd never own one.

It is with a VERY sad and heartbroken heart that I post this.
It seems as if a week with no food from Mom,being the runt, possible worm infestation (though I did worm them with Strongid from my Vet the am), and possibly an illness, we have lost one of our kits. The other smaller one is also acting a bit weird. So, I don't look for her to make it either.
I am syringe feeding her more and even doing the pedialyte again.I am at a loss!!!
Why is it that there are people that throw a defensless, pregnant animal to the side of the road and think " oh, Fluffy will find a wonderful home for her and her kits"? I never wanted this.......that's why Blaze and Neela are both spayed.I don't want more babies born into this world to only know sickness, hunger, and no loving home to grow up in.

I will never
I will never see your bright eyes looking up at me
I will never feel your paws wrap around my finger when I feed you
I will never hear your soft meow
I will never see you romp and play
I will never feel your body rub against my legs wanted to be petted
I will never be able to see you grow up
But, I will
FOREVER know the love that you have showed me
forever remember your soft fur as I held you until you took your last breath
Go rest now my sweet orphan baby.I tried with all my might to help you grow up to be a beautiful cat.
R.I.P.
only 4 weeks old
Chyanne

I think we should maybe wait for a few more days to see if the kits make it for their names.
PLEASE pray for my babies!!!!!
This is the one that is acting a bit weird.

I have cleaned the garden tub with bleach, removed all bowls, sheets, litter box and got all NEW ones.I have bleached syringes and any bowls that I have mixed the formula up in.I have the sick kit seperate from the others with a clean towel, new litter box, clean bowl with water in it.
I am pedialyte syringe feeding them also more now. They aren't happy about it, they'd rather have the formula.........but I am busting my rump doing all I can to give them the chance that they deserve.
My Mother-in-law asked why I don't just have these kits PTS.My answer, they deserve to have a chance in life.It wasn't their fault that nature/humans dealt them this hand of cards in life.
I'll keep you all posted.

Bless your heart. You gave it your all with little Chyanne...sometimes kittens just die, and for no reason other than that God wanted to call her home early. He has plans for her across The Bridge! I'm so very sorry for your loss...we all know how hard you've been working to raise these orphan babies, and you're doing a super job. They really do look very young, and at this stage, things can either flourish, or diminish quickly...do your best, we'll cheer you on...and again, bless you for giving them a chance to live and grow.

I'll be praying for the other little torti girl...how is she doing at this time? See any signs of improvement? So...they've all seen a vet? Good luck to you. You're doing such a wonderful thing...and little Chyanne is eternally grateful to you from across The Bridge.

Honey, no one on this site wants this...but there are those that simply choose to turn their heads and look the other way. It's awful, isn't it? Some think, "How does it effect me anyway? Overpopulation has a way of taking care of itself naturally. Besides, I'll just find homes for the kittens. People will always want kittens." This is the biggest mistake that people make!!! All it takes is one kitten to be dumped, become feral, meet a tom, and in 7 years, the kitten and her offspring can produce over 420,000 new cats and kittens...which produces MANY MANY MANY homeless ferals, strays, and shelter cats...most of which are adults, which are far less easy to rehome. For all of the kittens going to new homes...how many of these youngsters will never be spayed or neutered? And how many will escape their homes, and start the vicious cycle all over again? It is frustrating...and it happens every day, in every part of the world.

Again, this should be a reminder for you as to why what you're doing with these little kittens is so important, and special. You're breaking part of this cycle, and their futures truly are in your hands...I'm glad you found them! And believe me, they are glad as well, no matter what the outcome of this situation will be. No one can ever take away the fact that you gave them the gift of a home, and a loving mother's care...a gift that so many cats and kittens never receive.

I'm sorry the little one didn't make it. It's the heartbreaking side of taking care of these little ones.

Good luck with the other little girl. Keep the kittens out of air-conditioning but if where they are is very hot, you can run a fan on low pointing NEAR their box so that the air circulates, just not directly on them. Also, make sure anything you bleached is rinsed very, very well.

Please keep us updated...
