We adopted Clover a little over a week ago (last Saturday, 7/15), and lately she's been climbing our fake tree in the kitchen.. like, all the way to the top. I always get her down as soon as I see her, but she won't stop. Is there any way to get her to stop climbing? It's driving us nuts.

Buy a big cat tree, one that goes from floor to ceiling. Also try spraying some Bitter Apple on the tree to make it smell less attractive.

Thanks.
We're actually going to PetSmart today, and taking her, so I'll try to find something for her to climb. And I still need to find that bitter apple spray.

Try to remember that this is a natural behaviour for her - that's what trees are for!

Lookingglass's suggestions are good ones - I would like to add (and please be patient with me) - that you consider rezoning the fake tree as a 'legal' kitty play area.

I know, but we still don't really like her climbing in it..
I'll see if we get a kitty tree before deciding if the kitchen tree becomes a "play area"..

Bitter apple isn't great as a deterrant to anything except chewing.
Cats do hate citrus smells, simply spraying the tree with a little citrus oil should do the trick.

I'll look for citrus oil then.
We went to look for kitty trees, and they were a little expensive, so we'll see what happens..

You may want to try to build you own! I don't know how crafty you are, but if you know how to use a nail gun it really isn't all that hard. Do a search on threads for it.
