This may have been asked before but i cant find a thread on it. Kirra has picked up this lazy habbit in the last 2 weeks of not covering her mess when she uses the box, weither its pee or poo. Now i changed the brand when she started this, she was on tidy cat, i figured the large size grains were bugging her and she wanted to get out quick (and well it didnt clump well) so we moved to cats pride (walmart brand) and it clumps better, is smaller grain, softer, yet she still isnt covering. I dont get it, she covered when she first got here. I mean its not that big a deal, cept when her poo stinks bad.

One of my cats does that too. Haven't been able to figure out why. The funny thing is that he scratches all around it like he's trying to cover it but nary a grain of the litter hits the poop.

I've seen other post the same issue but never caught a solution. It could be a comfort issue with the litter though I see you've already tried another litter. It could be an issue with pawing. Does your cat still scratch at it's post and walk around fine? Maybe they can't stand the smell either and just want to get out. Since I've moved my cats over to a BARF diet their feces don't smell 1/10th as bad and the volume is reduced significantly.

Maybe it's just a personality quirk. Every cat is as unique as every one of us. Maybe you can get another cat and that cat will cover up for your other cat. Someone else here had that happen.

It doesn't matter what kind of cat litter I use, my youngest cat who is now 7 years old has never covered up her business. She hates to get her paws dirty so she's in, does what she has to do and literally jumps right out. And that's even when the box has been sanitized and full of fresh clean litter.

The litter box is in the bathroom, so whenever I have to go in there I take 10 seconds afterwards to bend and scoop. So the pan is always clean for their next use. If she has a particularly stinky poo, I just go in and scoop right away.

As with people, cats all have different potty habbits

My oldest cat shovels before and after. She digs right to the bottom of the pan before, and then makes a huge mound after.

Well see thats what got me, when we first got her she dug a hole, did her job in it and covered it back up. But maybe thats what it is, she has been watching me scoop her litter more, her box is in our room, only place my 2 year old cant go, and as soon as i know she has gone, scoop its gone. so maybe i made her lazy rofl.

Chynna will sometimes do that for Abby, LOL Usually I get there before and scoop though, but I've caught Chynna go in after Abby's left and cover it up for her.

LOL, my cats often decide to go to the bathroom at the same time as I do, so sometimes while they are going I lean forward with the scooper and catch it and discard it before they turn around.
Talk about confused kitties!

My cat Neppy isn't very good at covering up her poop either. She usually kicks most the litter out of the box and not one bit covers her poo. It's a little annoying and I have yet to find a solution for it. But I tend to just grab the scooper and cover it up with liter for her so it will harden and is easier to scoop.

Hehe.. Talk about cats training their people. I have an auto scooping box but all of my cats have covered. My problem was they were too picky in the litter box. Tigger when he was a kitten would dig a hole, test squat, dig another, test squat, over and over. Then when he finally went, he'd pull the entier litter box onto it. Then as if he forgot when he burried he'd dig it up again, make sure it was there, and cover it again with as much litter as he could pile on it.

When I got the automatic one, he was completely appalled that it took his treasure away. Everytime he'd hear it scoop after he was in there, he'd wait for it to finish and they dig around wondering where it went. Then it would scoop again because he was there, but he already knew it was gone and didn't care. Took him a couple weeks to get over that.
