I finally QUIT BITING MY NAILS! This is the hardest thing I think I have ever done! I tell my friends it has to be like smoking. I do it when I'm bored, hungry, etc, etc......my nails were very, very short and looked BAD.....

It has been almost two weeks and I am doing great! I have tried stopping quite a few times before and it never stuck! I am so proud! I buffed them and shined them and have been painting them and they aren't very long but are getting there! I told Trav that I am prepping my left ring finger for that engagement ring I have been waiting for for 3 and a half years
He just laughed at me!

So have you kicked any bad habits and what were they?

I actually had the same habit for years. Ever since I was little I would bite my nails, and it got really bad. I was about 17... i think, when a friend offered a suggestion to me on how to stop. I wore a rubber band around my wrist. Everytime I went to bite a nail, I'd see the rubber band, and pop myself
It hurt, but it was suppose too. Eventually, I would go to bite my nails, see it, and stop. I haven't had any hardcore biting since then. I slip up every now and again, but only when they get really long. So I guess the habit isn't really broken?

I tried EVERYTHING including the rubberband. I saw right through it! I was bad at that. I put a bunch of bad-tasting stuff on my nails and still bit right through...I know...SO gross! But it's all over now.....

Should have done it kitty-style, and had some bitter apple going on

According to my husband... the zoo
My daughter, who is 20 is currently trying to stop biting her nails.

I think it's been about 2 weeks since she's stopped. Last week we went and got manicures to encourage her.

What's funny is the only reason I stopped was because I had the stomach flu two weeks ago and didn't bite them then. I just never started again.

Movin' on up!
Until I was 23, I bit my nails, until they bled. Twenty-five years ago, I quit, cold turkey and haven't bitten them since (I wish quitting smoking was as easy).

These nails are my major vanity and they ARE home-grown:

My bad habit is cracking my knuckles. I don't think I'm going to quit anytime soon.

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I am a knuckle cracker... and a neck cracker... and a back cracker.... and a knee cracker...and an ankle cracker ..... and a toe cracker.
I also twirl my hair constantly. I have twirled my hair since I was an infant, before I could even walk. And I still do it now.... especially when I'm thinking, or driving. But I don't think it's a bad habit.... I actually quite enjoy it. My hair is long & soft, and it feels nice so I'm always playing with it. This however really annoys my husband... who insists I look ridiculous playing with my hair... he actually physically gets irritated by it.
Then I guess his inability to hit the laundry hamper or actually throw away his own wrappers & trash should give me flu like symptoms right???

I definately need to stop biting mine - they will get long, and I'll bite them off!

I keep telling John that I have to stop biting them, for that engagement ring I'm waiting for!
