ok, my cat mickie wakes me up at least four times a nite

i usually stumble out to the kitchen- dont even bother to put my glasses on, crack open a can of FF and dump it in a bowl

well i was so hungry, i decided to grab a slice of bread, slap some pnut butter on it, and take it back to bed with me.

so i plunged the knife into the jar of pnut butter and

CRUNCH!

ok i KNOW i didn't get crunchy pnut butter but even that does not crunch like this did

in shock but still not willing to give up on my sandwhich, i plunged the knife in again, picked up the bread and tried to slap some pnut butter on it...
another crunch and now i can see all these dark things on the counter and my bread and the knife

i am totally horrified but pick up the jar and put it close to my eyes to try to see what the hell is wrong with my pnut butter (i am blind without my glasses)
inside the jar its all dark things, and i realize this has got to be a nightmare and rush back to bed

this morning i find:

a knife, a pc of bread, and the counter and the floor, sprinkled with instant coffee granules

the open jar of instant coffee beside the unopened jar of pnut butter

That reminds me of a story my dad once told me.
He was about my age and got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom when he got the urge for a bowl of Raisin Bran. He went into the dark kitchen and fixed himself a bowl and went to his bedroom to eat it while watching TV. He ate about half of it when he realized he had a bug on his hand. He flipped the light on to find a bunch of bugs in his cereal

OH and another one
My aunt went to the vending machine at her work and got a candy bar.
She took a huge bit out of it and sat it down to go about her business. She went to take another bite and seen a worm next to the candy bar. She looked at the candy bar and it was FULL of meal worms!
I believe she sued the company who made them...

That is too funny!

Back in the day, when I lived in South Carolina, we had a few roaches. My Mom was visiting once, and left an open box of raisin bran on the shelf. The next day I found it. She said it would be ok. But I could just picture eating a bowl as one of the raisins walked away.

Old habits die hard...I STILL keep all my cereal in plastic cereal containers. I have lived in this house for 10 years, and never had a roach. But better safe than sorry, right?!?

And your cat is totally spoiled! Four times a night?!? I would not be able to function after one night like that! Maybe for the next few nights you should serve kitty some coffee grounds. I'll bet he quits waking you up at night! LOL!

To this day I check my cereal and candy bars before eating them

Another story
My same aunt bought a cactus from some guy at a flea market. She brought it home and put inside the front room by the front door.
About 3 days later she noticed it looked like it was breathing. She called a nearby nursery and told them what she had and what it was doing. They told her to put it outside and took her name and # and address and said they would call her back. About 30 mins later the owner of the nursey showed up with a bag full of white powder in his truck.
He put the cactus, planter and all, in the bag and cut it open with a machete knife. Out came what ended up being over 300 baby scorpions

Apparently it was too cold outside at the flea market for them to hatch and when she brought it inside they warmed up and began to hatch and move.
I will NOT have a cactus in my house since that! I HAD pics of it before my pc crashed yesterday

Nice thread to read while eating breakfast! Unfortunately, I can relate only too well to the cereal one - this was only a few weeks ago, I was eating my non-crunchy wheat puffs and got a couple of crunchy bits. I thought hmm...and had a close look. Nothing but cereal. The puffs have these little black kernel parts, and some were floating in the milk. I was sure they were part of the puffs, but just in case I put them aside on the rim and ate the rest of my cereal. When I put the bowl in the sink I noticed that one of kernels had sprouted legs and was flailing about on the rim! Urgh! I had to dump the whole box and was freaking out 'cos I could see all the bugs in it.
Old habits die hard...I STILL keep all my cereal in plastic cereal containers. I have lived in this house for 10 years, and never had a roach. But better safe than sorry, right?!?
Um, I DO keep my cereal in plastic containers......

Just rereading this now - you are so good. Bobby gets 1 feed at 4.30ish (I have to stay up til he's done though. For medical reasons, he eats a different kitty food from the others so I close him in the kitchen so he can eat in peace; if I didn't he'd be enduring constant commando raids on his food. I have to stay up til he's done so that I can let him out of the kitchen and we can both go back to bed.

IA. If you need me, just meow..
My cats free feed so they don't wake us up for anything other then pettings at night. But I understand the being worried about critters part. One night I was thirsty and got up to get some water, went into the kitchen and stepped on something and it went squish. I had to turn on the light cause it freaked me out so badly. It was one of those water bugs, the kind that look like roaches.
I just about pooped in my pants! I hate bugs to begin with so stepping on one, just grossed me out. I cleaned it up, throughly washed my foot, and decided I didn't need water that badly anymore.

Oh wow this thread is hilarious. We used to have little tiny bugs that looked something like coffee grounds...
There was this one soup mix I wouldn't eat and my parents were eating it and those things they thought were pepper flakes...yea, all bugs. Hundreds of them. We looked at the bag and it had all these little holes in it.

Keeping your cereal in the freezer does more to prevent bugs than anything else, for one thing they can't get in there unless the door's open, and for another they mostly die cause of the cold.

We also had an incident with a box of Cheerios once. We opened the bag, and found a bunch of what looked like brown praying mantises and a big like, cocoon thing over the top of the cereal. We took pictures and my mom sent them in... and we got a refund and like, a year's supply of coupons for free Cheerios. Grossest thing I've ever seen. My dad's face went white when he opened it, and my mom's eyes started watering like she was gonna puke. Bleh.

well she (yeh, Mickie is a girl, and no i did not give her that name!!) would probably love the cofffee , she has dirt fetish, and will eat anything that is gritty.

but she is 19yrs old and has CRF and IBD and needs to eat as much food as THREE cats would (yeh it gets expensive) because its not all absorbed by her digestive tract.

she is senile too, and well, i have been doing this for three years now- the getting up nearly every half hour, that i don't know if i could sleep any longer than that at one time now LOL

i breifly thought one night, when she woke me up just to be pet, and had already woken me up many times - "this frikkin cat's gonna live forever!!" but of course that was just out of exhaustion.

i would have been devastated if she had up and died that day!!
